Makes sense, thanks for the info
You can rule out Byrd. They won't go after a coach that old who only recruits off the radar kids (though granted he does that niche pretty well).
Tennessee can get just about whomever they want. They just have to be willing to pay for it. For whatever reason (and probably because they want football to be the spotlight program), they have always been stingy with the basketball salary.
But Pearl turned that place into one of the top three programs in the SEC before he was fired. They should be able to attact the best even though the place is currently a dumpster fire. Just depends on whether they want to truly have an elite coach or want to try to find "value" which has been the MO of the past. UT could have had Marshall when he was at Winthrop and he wanted the job. UT went a different direction and I think he's not forgotten that.
Byrd will not leave Belmont for UT for less than a guaranteed 3 Million a year and a 5 year guarantee! He is already a God at Belmont (If Baptists had Saints he'd get to be one). At 60+ years of age he can stay in Nashville until he retires! He is a UT grad and his poppa was a sportswriter in Knoxville! But Nah! Ain't Happenin'.

RE: Tyndall out at Tennessee
Another coach has resigned. Jareem Dowling who was at USM with Tyndall and followed Tyndall to UT only to return to USM shortly thereafter and was one of Doc Sadler's assistants. This now makes 3 assistant coaches/staff members who were with Tyndall at USM that has resigned. This has the makings of a really bad situation for us.

They're going to have to pony up though to even get him to consider. They have been unwilling to go that expensive in the past but I hear they are more willing to go get an elite coach.
From what I have heard the big red elephant is about to offer Marshall a crapload of money.
He'd better hope so if he ends up there, because his next gig would be a middle school girls' team in Idaho.

I don't think UT can get whoever they want. It's not an elite basketball program, and coaches like Marshall or Smart aren't interested for that reason. Smart turned down UCLA a couple years ago and Marshall can sit tight for a blue blood program or for Texas. Brad Underwood might be interested.
I'm sure they can get a good coach, but it's not going to be any sort of superstar hire. Last year's search should be a good indicator.
