Baseball Preview: Back To Conference Play For The Diamond Hawks
Baseball | 3/27/2015 9:08:00 AM | Tom Riordan
TOWSON, Maryland – The Seahawks return to conference play this weekend beginning on Friday when they visit Towson for a three-game series at Schuerholz Park.
All three games will be audio streamed on the Seahawk Digital Network at UNCWsports.com.
UNCW stands at 3-0 in the league after sweeping Northeastern at Brooks Field last weekend in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams. The Seahawks captured a 10-5 win in the opener and then rallied for a 4-3 win on Saturday to win the series. UNCW followed the come-from-behind win with a 15-1 rout in the series finale as both Gavin Stupienski and Joe Berton homered twice as part of UNCW's 10 extra base hit attack.
Towson is coming off a rout itself as the Tiger whipped Delaware State, 20-7, earlier in the week. The Tigers are 3-18 overall and 0-3 in the league after being swept by preseason favorite College of Charleston on the road.
In mid-week action, the Seahawks topped longtime rival East Carolina, 4-2. Chris Gaffney belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the second inning to erase an early 1-0 deficit for the Seahawks. Whitman Barned (4-0) picked up the win in relief and Jared Gesell picked up his second save of the season.
The Seahawks lead the all-time series 34-16 after sweeping a rain-shortened two-game set last season at Brooks Field.
Projected Rotations
UNCW: Nick Monroe (1-1); Ryan Foster (2-0); Evan Phillips (1-0)
Towson: Austin Clark (0-4), Kevin Ross (1-2); TBA
