Ohhhhhh noooooooo. I said after Witts "few vocal" comment if students are going to rally it's needs to be organized and massive. You got a couple of responses like:

rook360 Wrote:Don't need a lot. Just need sincere dedication.

and this gem

the blazerman Wrote:They aren't in class this week. It's spring break week.

Whatever they do will be fine.

They can raise more hell next week.

You go out there with only 20 or 30 students you're going to be validating Witt's point even though we know that isn't the case. But no need to give him, Watts, or the BOT any kind of ammo.

What does it hurt? Spring Break or not. We took a small group to Montgomery the first time and got noticed. We took a larger group the second time and made news.

It was a small group at the Alumni house for the Trustees meeting, everyone wanted a big number. That small number of us made a big noise.

Every time something is organized there are a few people on here that state emphatically that we need numbers there, but those same people complaining never show up. But it is what it is.

Read the article. Points still getting put out and it still stays in the news and on the radar. Or just stay on blazertalk preaching to the choir happy for the bone he threw basketball all the while wondering if and when the other shoe will fall.. There comes a point in your life you don't worry about what people think.
I don't know what it is about UAB and numbers. People complained about Solomon criticizing our numbers and here are posters doing the same thing.

Oh well, will I'll see you in Montgomery on Tuesday? We need numbers

For those of you worried about looking bad, what do you think this topic looks like to those 53 guess browsing the board including the media and Watts' PR goons? What are you doing criticizing the efforts of other Blazers who are working toward the same goal you are - you ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

The folks out there today trying to do your work for you were some of the people who have sacrificed the most for our cause. One is the person who organized nearly every one city council resolution we have ordained to date. Another is a dedicated student who been in the forefront of every demonstration and march to date. Four of them a members of the lobby team who have already made two trips to Montgomery and making another one next Tuesday. Three are on the Lobbying steering committee who have not only made the trips to Montgomery, but have met numerous times planning and organizing the lobbying effort with the leadership and Jack Williams.

Do you see a pattern developing here. The people involved today are some of the most active in this entire movement and you have the nerve to criticize them? What burns my butt is that I know that some of the people doing the criticizing have been a lot more active at their keyboards than they have at actually doing something productive.

I don't know who organized the march, but I know that whoever it was is trying a lot harder than some of you guys bitching away. If you think you can do better get out in front and do your thing, but let me warn you it ain't easy. Sometimes it is a lot like herding cats.

This entire topic is an abomination, and it is embarrassing to the FreeUAB movement. Moderators, please remove it from the board before some other outsiders see it. It is unsuitable for public consumption.

No, leave it. No family is perfect.
let it be here so we can look back on this and see what was said and how it all unfolded. SO the PR team or the visitors see us having a disagreement, who cares. They may think they found a weak link, but all they found was a difference in opinion on one topic. I think we all want the same thing

rally
I see both sides. I was there and marched for Courtney, but I think that at this point in the game I agree with a number of the posters. It's more important to maintain momentum than it is to march at this point. This march gives DC a handy tool - they pull out the pictures and show them to legislators and say "Look, even with Jack's document drop, no one came. No one really gives a damn, not really."

They'll leave out that it was thrown together a couple of days before while the campus was out on spring break, because that does not fit their narrative. DC is a crappy PR firm, but they weren't hired to do PR. They're a lobbying firm, hired to spin to the guys in Montgomery, many of whom are lukewarm about this anyhow. Making it easier for them is a mistake. Rick and Kris and I were all there, and one of us should have looked around and said, "You know what? Maybe this one should be let go, because it didn't gel." We have to pick our spots. The image we want is hundreds, a thousand, out in front of Admin for the cameras. Two dozen of us straggling down the street is not the image we need to be projecting, good intentions or not.

Then get a damn picture of the UA basketball NIT game and say
"If that's the case lets close down the UA basketball program."
And when they reply well that was spring break, well so was ours during this time. It was put together at the last moment and had more response then a game in Tuscaloosa that students new about.

We keep putting up numbers that are pretty hard to reach. Put up realistic numbers and when you get over that point you make a statement.
Kris didn't say we need a thousand people in Montgomery. He shot for a hundred and got maybe just over 110 or 200 (I'm terrible at visual guessing games). When you talk big you have to produce big. When you talk logically, you generally don't get disappointed.

Maybe 200 or so students and alum at the next event. Anything more than that and you exceeded expectations. Hell 200 is a lot of people making noise. It was put out that there would probably be low student turn out on twitter, but you drove forward and made noise. I applaud everyone who could make it today. You may think it was for not but I believe that you kept it in someone's mind.

Have any of you noticed the people who stand at the fountain on south side with the "No war in middle east" signs or what ever? You may say what a waste of time, but you still see them. The guy on Lakeshore who has the Jesus signs and preaches on the side of the road?

I'll say it again, any of y'all standing on the sideline complaining are welcome to put to put something together. Get it started and a bunch of us will publicize it on the various websites, twitter and elsewhere and then show up. I've seen Courtney everywhere, at so many different events. I knew this was going to be small, I could have ducked it, but she asked for bodies and I honored that. She and Tim and a few others have done a lot of heavy lifting. I'm sure they'd welcome some help.

The answer to "Somebody really should do that, only better organized" is to get out there, bring some friends, put it together and lead us. Show us how. Zac Woodfin was very good at it, but he's not here to lead any longer.

He wasn't in the office today anyhow.

Those of you complaining are welcome to help put one together at a better time and show up.

Tuesday evening in and around Regions Field seems like a good time to me!
