Really the only way to make noise in college basketball is either winning the NIT (Noise for your team) or going on a deep run in the NCAA's (good for both team and conference). No one cares about the CBIT level crap. Here's some homework. When was the last time a winner of the CBIT went on to the NCAA's the year after they won the CBIT?

the CIT/CBI champ or runner up has gone on to the NCAA Tournament 5 of the last 6 years. Murray State losing in the OVC final this year ended the streak, they went to the NIT instead.

No one may care, but it is a good indicator of future success.

We are the other CIT champ that didn't make the NCAA tournament after winning in. But we did win the MVC the following year and probably should have made the tournament.

Like Chris Petersen leaving for Washington has hurt Boise St.? Or like Brad Stevens leaving for the Celtics has hurt Butler? Or like when Munson left for Minnesota hurting Gonzaga?

Before Marshall got Wichita State into the tournament in 2012, the Shockers had been to the tournament only once in the previous 23 years. It took Marshall five years to get Wichita State into the tournament. So it can easily slide back to where it was. The next coach is going to have a difficult time trying to get close to Marshall's record of 122-21 over the past four year period.

Dan Monson was at Gonzaga for two years and made the tournament once. Not a very good example. Mark Few is the guy that built that program with 15 straight tournament appearances.

Brad Stevens replacement, Brandon Miller, went 14-17 in his first season and left early in his second season. That transition did not go well. Another bad example.

Petersen inherited a program that had eight straight winning seasons. Boise State has established a winning football tradition under multiple coaches. Dirk Koetter handed it off to Dan Hawkins and Hawkins handed it off to Chris Petersen. It has now been handed off to Harsin. Not comparable to what Marshall inherited at Wichita State.

Munson put Gonzaga on the map. Butler is still good. You're allowed a bad season. UNC sucked just 6 or 7 years ago. Hawkins left Boise and no one thought Boise would still be good after he left. My point is good coaches leaves mid major programs but it doesn't mean said program is going to start sucking.
