Ralph Willard (Holy Cross) at Louisville

Dave Duke (Lehigh) at Temple
Dave Leitao (Depaul/ Virginia) at Tulsa

Notice a trend?

Also, former Houston head coach Alvin Brooks is on Kelvin Sampson's current staff at Houston.

Also, Shawn Finney (Tulane) is at UCF, Sergio Rouco (FIU) is at USF, and Michael Perry (Georgia State) is at ECU. The only schools in our conference that don't have a former collegiate head coach on staff are Memphis and Tulane.

It won't be a wow hire IMO.

See, I don't see Grant as the "sage" bench guy to help Josh learn the job better.

I'm sure Herb is a reach, BUT the fact he has a proven ability to teach younger guys is a huge plus.

Can we get Doris Burke? She seems to have a grasp on how badly we do things and things we should be doing. She knows her stuff.

she's hot

sticky sweet

X & O coaches provide situational options when deemed necessary. in the heat of games Josh has refused to listen or make the smart decision.

For the last time the elephant will still be in the room.

For this to work Josh has to say that his methodologies and his strategies will not work and are wrong.

I wouldn't blame him if he is not willing to do this.

Herb might not have gotten the job done as a head coach, but look at the assistants he has cultivated:

Thad Matta
Archie Miller
Sean Miller
John Groce

All of those guys have gotten to a S16 at the least.

Josh needs a veteran assistant and Herb has been great with molding young guys with the "it" factor into successful head coaches. Pastner had that "it" factor at one point and perhaps he just needs guidance.

Thoughts?

I guess it depends on how well Josh's personality interacts with assistants who have been former head coaches. SOME coaches feel threatened and wouldn't do that.
If he has a PRAYER of turning this all around...he needs to do something new...something he hasn't done before...something radical.
I don't care if it means pissing on a sparkplug.

I don't think this would be a bad move for him at all.

Watch josh on any timeout in crunch-time. He does not immediately gather the players around like he is bursting to tell them what to do. The FIRST thing he does is huddle with the coaches out away from the players. He goes into such coaches huddles with this wondering look on his face as if to say "gee guys, what da ya think?" and is usually not the first one to speak. Sometimes he is hustling to get into the players huddle and tell them what to do because the warning whistle has already blown.

He is not a type A personality from what I've seen.
