He has been the main voice of discipline and strategist fr Coach Pastner...and he wasn't in there for the majority of the season.
Things kind of snowballed down while he was out.

No

I hate this for my Tiger program. Pastner under fire (rightly so), players quitting/transferring, fans snipping at each other. Geez this is depressing. IF we ever recover, it may take years.

Hire BRUCE PEARL and it would go away quickly.

Yes..he would win here. There is no doubt he is a very good coach. But personally, I find him sleezy. I may never get the picture of him without a shirt out of my head.

Lmao well,there is that!

which ones do you want back

i watched wilson and his team play in jacksonville in front of 30 people and both teams where awful (really awful)
woodson has left baylor, memphis and tennessee (so all of these are bad programs?)

Iverson
King
Magee
Black
Barton

i think all of these guys wanted to be starters and could/would not accept coming off the bench

iverson will probably be a starter at rhode island
magee will probably be a starter at grand canyon university
black's number of starts went way down from his sophomore to junior season and did not have a significant increase at kansas, his per 40 is about the same for all 4 years Blacks stats

Barton got way more minutes at Tennessee than he would have at memphis given the 4 senior guards, his per 40 is about the same but his turnovers went down Barton Stats

Maybe Iverson just wanted to play more? The most minutes he got was 19.

Barton had played 3 years as the 3rd/4th guard on the team. He would have been the same as Dixon. Don't think he had a problem coming off the bench when that's all he did at Memphis.

Black situation just never should have happened. He was a starter and played major role.

Every kid wants to be a starter. High level coaches seem to be able to manage it and get players to accept their roles. Pastner doesn't.

In the end all I hear in defense of Pastner are excuses.

Pastner could walk in your house and pop a squat on your living room floor and you'd thank him for the privilege.

That's because he's a good fan, and that's the way good fans behave -- at least, according to the MTO paradigm.

Direct question, with a simple yes or no answer: does a good fan ever root for his/her team to lose?

One word answer, anything else is a 'yes.'

My answer is 'no.'

My unofficial answer is: 'hell no.'

You don't have to go anywhere near that far to NOT be a good fan on this board, but nice try at misdirection. And no, my personal standard for good fans would not include someone who did that. I've personally witnessed that once on this board, and that poster was soundly thrashed by all parties.

One word answer from you -- if a coach looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, and someone calls him a duck, does a poster who posts a 24-inch long post pointing to all the other coaches who know how to swim pass the test of being a duck-coach water carrier?

Case in point: CJP was quoted as saying something similar to 'teams better get us this year' which gives the impression that we will be so much better this coming year. Watch how he backtracks before the season starts. he will be saying that we have an inexperienced young team that will take time to gel. After some early season non-conf losses, he will say we will get better. them comes the turmoil, then repeat again.

And that would be great, except...no one used that the last two seasons...when the team performed pretty well, although unfortunately short of great. Simply not sure that one game short if what was hoped for deserves the level of mouth breathing derision that gets crapped here.

Similarly, next season, when newcomers THIS season, Burrell, Woodson and Crawford, guards all, will be more experienced, let alone Kedren, Shaq and Nichols.

The Lawsons will be inexperienced but the team will not...and other than maybe some comments about an ins experienced decision or two concerning them, you will not hear it.

Except those who take everything and mock it or use it as bait it bash,,,get this...Memphis.

Yeah they miss the point and say every team has transfers but every team doesn't lose half it's roster in one year. There is a big difference there. They believe what they want it's bizarre that people care more about a coach than they do the direction of the program. No one can really believe that this is going well and Pastner is doing a good job. They are just trolling.

What part of PASTNER NEEDS TO GO have I not made clear? What part of that is mis-direction?

And we actually agree on the rest, if you will try comprehending what I wrote. We both say that fans who openly root for their team to lose are not good fans. That was my only criteria for that appellation. Nothing else, just that. Fans who criticize the coach personally are turds, but they could still be good fans of the program.

Woodson was not a starter.
Iverson was not a starter.
King was not a starter.
Pookie was not a starter.
Magee was not a starter and never played.
Wilson was not a starter.

It is a lot of movement...although nothing as grandiose or as different based on rotations as the fear mangers are banging.

Pookie was likely in position to compete and be a contributor. Too bad he decided not to try. To a lesser degree King, but he wants to play more...instead of playing a decent but important amount.

Iverson was never a good kid. If that gets matched with throwing under the bus...so be it. He did it to himself public ally mocking his coach...and he did it LAST year too. He is not the first, nor will he be the last...even more blue blooded schools send bad seeds packing. Push the nonsense away and look it up.

And to the soon to be mockers who will be really upset that a fan argued that Iverson was not a good kid but finesses our coach...again...results have been short ... Although not that short, and based on returnees next season, another 18-14 style year will not cut it here at Memphis.

I can make that same point with mean spirited mocking derision if it will help some of your boners grow.

spinning like a top

King and Pookie did start some games. Pookie was never developed nor given much of a chance by Capt Flashcard and could have been our best option at PG.

King was a homegrown top 50 kid who walked away. He is the final nail in Josh's local recruiting coffin.
