Pro Day tomorrow March 25th
So excited for our future NFLers! Is anyone going to the Pro Day? If so, can we get some sort of report? Phillip will be there tomorrow to cheer on the guys. I know Bryce has several team visits coming up. Not sure about Jordan or Christian.

RE: Pro Day tomorrow March 25th
Moondog just tweeted that Callahan jumped a 43.5" vertical and 11' broad jump. For reference, that would have been #2 in both categories at the Combine (and may help alleviate some height concerns). Well done Bryce!

Oh My Goodness that vertical is great! It is so important because of his height....you go Bryce!

Nice! That exceeds Jarett Dillard's combine vertical of 42.5" ... although many said his usual was more like 66". :-)

I'll have thoughts on Rice Pro Day later tonight but 3 guys scouts came to see - Covington, Callahan & Taylor - had excellent days.

John Harris ‏@jharrisfootball · 3m3 minutes ago
26 at Rice...guess NFL still hates smart guys (sarcasm font) RT @jjones9 30 NFL teams here at Duke. Cardinals & Jets are only absent ones.

John Harris @jharrisfootball · 3h 3 hours ago

At Rice Pro Day, DT/DE Christian Covington ran 4.68 (on my time)..290 lb running under 4.7? Whoooowee. CB Bryce Callahan in low 4.3s too!

There is some really good coverage on the Pro Day.

John Harris of the Texans and Nate Griffen have been covering it on twitter. Check out Nate's twitter (@Coloranalyst) because he has a lot of videos showing different drills.
Apparently over 20 NFL scouts were there.
A lot of guys ran low 4.4s
Notables include Christian Covington under 4.7, Callahan under 4.4, and Taylor mid 4.5s.

A CB running under 4.4 should be able to get some notice from the NFL in the draft. Also Taylor running 4.5 with his size should be very good.

A ~300lb DT running under 4.7 is not just good, it's phenomenal.

Good that the pro scouts see the dirt in the EZF construction to let them know Rice is investing in football again.

And the media, too.
From the nfl.com writeup linked above:
Quote:Rice finished the 2014 season with an 8-5 record and capped the year off with a 30-6 win over Fresno State in the Hawai'i Bowl. Rice's pro day this year was reflective of the on-field success the emerging program is experiencing (three consecutive seasons of bowl-eligibility). This pro day had the best group of prospects scouts have seen at Rice in some time.

David Mooney tweeted yesterday about the change in # of scouts at Rice (https://twitter.com/Owlsportswatch/statu...9572141056)

"#riceproday was once a couple guys and a handful of NFL scouts. Now, double digit players and almost every NFL team represented.. #winning"

Nice, thanks for the link. Disappointing time for Ross.

As an aside, it is very pleasing to see that the opinion on Rice football is changing. A conference championship in 2015 might really push Rice over that edge.

I really enjoyed that write up. I have a lot less interest in pro ball than college ball. But it's great to see our program and our athletes get some attention from most all the NFL teams. It's a tribute to our coaches, too. Especially Strength and Conditioning.
