I knew SMU doesn't have baseball, but Temple and Tulsa, too?

Not nearly as embarrassing as having 5 over 200 in basketball. 07-coffee3

Temple just axed their baseball team last season.

Interesting comparison (as of now)

AAC Hoops had 1 team ranked in the Top 31 RPI (SMU)

AAC Baseball has 4 teams ranked in the Top 31 RPI (UCF, Houston, UCONN, USF)

Baseball doesn't make the conference money like basketball and football... college ball doesn't even make 75% of American sports pages and then its only a mention of local teams until the College World Series and even then its barely covered unless a local team is in it. Baseball though widespread, is one of those afterthought college sports in most parts of the country. It's not even a ticket revenue sport in 80% of colleges.

It's growing a ton throughout the South. Most SEC and B12 schools make money along with plenty of P12/ACC and some smaller schools. Comparing it to the two big sports is insanity but if you look at the revenue for the top schools, they are close to women's Bball which I think is a decent comp.

There is nothing wrong with baseball not being on the level of football or basketball. Both of those sports have basically exploded on the national scene and the focus on them has gotten ridiculous.

That said, baseball has a respectable following nationally. Casual Major League Baseball fans even follow it because of the draft (as do the sports networks for much the same reason).

Omaha is one of the greatest College tournaments in any sport.

Consequently, having a solid, recognized, baseball conference is good for the branding of our conference. Any sport that puts our brands on a competitive platform against the higher profile football conferences is important to our future.

We just need to get more of our product on TV.
