Should WSU find a new, better conference?
Should WSU pull a Butler/VCU and find a better conference?

If so, what would that be?

The Mo Valley was #12 in Sagarin

The choices above are (with closest team):
7 Atlantic 10 (St Louis)
8 West Coast (BYU) -- this doesn't seem to be an option geographically
9 AAC (Tulsa) -- NO FOOTBALL
10 Mid-American -- this doesn't seem like a step up from Mo Valley
11 Mountain West (Air Force, Co State) -- NO FOOTBALL

Their lack of football probably puts them out of the AAC and the Mountain West -

so this leaves the Atlantic 10 -

Would it be worth it for WSU to, in the absence of re-activating a long gone football program, to join the A-10?

AAC has the dynamic of 12 for football and 11 for basketball. They could see it as an opportunity to even things out.

Still think the American should add Dayton, VCU, and Wichita State for all sports except football.

Would any of those options really be better?

Why change conferences if you are winning the one you are in and continual get to the dance? What benefit would there be to risk becoming an average team in a better conference?

Dayton and Richmond, VA are two of the top ten markets for college basketball.

So you think Memphis should have stayed in CUSA?

I think geographically and culturally they fit in best with the MWC.

They fit best in the MVC where they have been for decades.

And if you are looking for a better basketball conference, there's only the P5 (but they have no football), Big East (but they are state) and Atlantic 10, but the latter is only marginally better and subject to losing St. Louis, Dayton or Richmond to the BE.

The WCC actually has Creighton as an affiliate in one sport, so it could be an option. If Denver had a decent RPI it would help as Denver would make a nice bridge between WSU and BYU.

Unless it's the MWC or AAC, definitely stay put. MVC has an underrated history and attendance. Bradley is financially loaded and will wake up once they hire the right coach. Southern Illinois has a great history and facilities too and will be back--just need time after Lowery torpedoed their program.

They switched because of football, WSU would be switching for basketball. The goal in basketball is to go dancing and that is what they are doing. Memphis didn't make the tournament this year and actually lost to WSU. Also their last year in CUSA they were a 6 seed next year with AAC they were an 8 seed. So switching in basketball didn't help them as they have gotten "worse" the past two years.

An option they won't pursue. They're not dumping local start times, decades of rivalries, and regional travel for a lateral move. And there's zero chance Creighton leaves the Big East.

Memphis had football to look after as well.

I could understand wanting to move if they had a season like they had this year and were left out of the tournament to start looking for a new conference. That didn't happen so why switch just to switch?

RE: Should WSU find a new, better conference?
Wichita St would be an excellent fit in the AAC. They already have a shared conference history with Memphis, Cinci, Houston, and Tulsa. Games against Temple, UConn, and SMU would solid attractions. The one thing that would greatly benefit WSU the most would be the national exposure. They are rarely on tv during the season. In the AAC every home game would be televised on a national network (either a ESPN network or CBS-Sports). I think that a pretty big deal for the schools exposure and certainly would help out on the recruiting trail. The AAC would represent more travel than they currently deal with, but it would be far less than the MW alternative and half of the AAC games would be in the central time zone (the rest in the eastern time zone).
