Ball State, IU extend contract
Already scheduled to play in 2016, Ball State and Indiana have agreed to extend their football contract another three years. They will play at IU in 2018, Lucas Oil Stadium in 2019 (a Ball State home game), and at IU in 2020.

RE: Ball State, IU extend contract
This announcement was a really good thing for Ball State obviously. But more surprising perhaps was this lead and quote from the Indianapolis Star report:

Losing three football games in a row to Ball State isn't preventing the Indiana Hoosiers from trying again.

"We are thrilled to continue this series with Ball State," IU athletic director Fred Glass said in a news release. "It's great for the fans of both programs and playing another state school has the added benefit of our financial support remaining within the state of Indiana."

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

That's a pretty enlightened statement from the IU AD. Good for Ball State, good for IU, and good for the state of Indiana. The games always draw well.

It's too bad that they won't play you in Muncie, but it's nice that they're willing to at least do a quasi-home and home in Indy. The last game at Lucas Oil drew over 40K I think, I'm sure that it generated some substantial revenue for BSU and is probably close to what IU draws in Bloomington.

They did play in Muncie a few years ago. But playing at Lucas Oil obviously allows more fans to see the game and Ball Sate gets great publicity and probably more income than if they played in Muncie. The game draws as well in Indy as it does in Bloomington. Both schools have huge alumni fan bases in Indy. It's a game that should be played eery year.

I wish Ohio State would play one game a year against another Ohio team, alternating between Cleveland and Cincinnati's NFL stadiums.

Same for Syracuse and UB. We played them tight in our last game and ever since they have shown little interest..

Imagine how the tables would even out perception-wise (to some extent) if all states passed a law stating that in-state FBS teams had to exchange 1 for 1's every 3 years. P5 cowards could no longer hide behind TV$ and close victory's in their own back yard.

A true home game would be nice, but Scheumann Stadium at just 22,500 seats is simply too small to be an attractive venue for almost any OOC team to consider, especially one with the largest fanbase in Indiana.

I really wish they'd replace the student side with stands that match the pressbox side, which would push capacity closer to 30,000, but the demand simply isn't there.

Indiana did play at Ball State in 2006. It was a great atmosphere and a full house.

Didn't know IU had a fanbase.

Notre Dame?

Based on personal experience, I've seen more IU stuff on cars and people around Muncie and Indy than ND stuff, but you may be right.
