He mentioned Derek Jeter making 56 errors one year in the Sally League and was defensive player of the year. Wayne's biggest problem was the pitchers not following the coaching plan. I gathered that we're staying away all the time and not pitching inside enough. He thought ODU did a great job of hitting with a great approach. Stevens MAY start Sunday. He thought Blake pitched pretty well except for one pitch. Errors did him in. All in all Wayne seemed optimistic we will get it together. My problem is that we seem to lack some mental toughness. When things are going good we're OK, but when the heat is on we falter. So many 2 strike hits, a lot of 2 out runs, a lot of wild pitches, walks and passed balls in clutch situations. As Wayne says we have the talent, we just need to show it.

I agree with this assessment. We most certainly have the talent; that's why the lack of fundamentals and the mental errors is so very frustrating.

But we've had these same mental issues for the better part of five years...whether it's fielding, first-pitch swings, etc.
