I hope Davis gets a head job somewhere. It'd be good for him and Cronin and UC. New blood on the staff could be beneficial, and when your assistants get head jobs you can attract the best assistants to fill their spot. Here's hoping Savino gets a head job somewhere in a few years as well.

Overall, a better year than many expected! Great effort by all. Who couldn't look back and question some decisions? Hopefully they learned from them, and will be better for it. Thank you Coach Davis, and thank you to the players for their efforts should be enough.

Go Bearcats!

RE: Hats off to Larry Davis
Coach Davis and the Team did an absolutely fantastic job throughout the season and especially against a bigger, theoretically more talented team on Saturday. Kudos to all involved -- I honestly can't remember being this proud of a UC team in a while.

That being said, SELFISHLY, I want to keep Coach Davis around. He seems to have built an incredible connection with the guys on the team and to add Mick back to that combination would be huge IMO. If LD decides to move on, may he have all the best luck in the world... except against UC of course.

Thanks fellas for a frustratingly tantalizing brilliant year. Can't wait to see what's in store this fall.

I wonder if NKU would take a look and, if so, whether it would be a high profile enough position for Davis? He now has deepish roots in Cincinnati (nearly 10 years), but coached in a conference, at Furman, that basically has the exact same footprint as the Atlantic Sun.

NKU was rumored to be looking at the assistant at X who does a lot of recruiting for them. Guessing that job will go to a young up and comer.

NKU is probably taking Travis Steele from Xavier. I don't think that is the kind of job Davis would leave for anyway. There is still a lot of building to do over at NKU.

Makes sense. I'm still not sure why they fired Bezold. From every indication, they've been getting better and better. Perhaps in the end, with that sort of investment, you have a shorter timeline.

I think Bezold got Rick Mintered a little bit. Got them to the D-1 promised land and now that they finished the probationary period, they might want to make a splash with donors by bringing in someone to move it forward to get threm into the Dance.

Bezold made about half of what LD was paid this year. Not gonna happen...

RE: Hats off to Larry Davis
At the Montgomery Inn on the coaches show on WLW last night, Dan asked Coach Davis about next year and what his future is with UC and if he'd move on if an opportunity presented its self.

Coach prefaced by saying he would in no way be disappointed if he was here being Micks assistant again next year, praised the University , the program and his bosses. Said he would be very picky but if the following criteria were met he would listen.

1. It made sense financially
2. Its a place he'd want to live (he mentioned the Montana job he interviewed for last year and quickly removed his name from consideration after visiting)
3. A school that is committed to winning (I take that as no rebuild projects or historically not a winning program)

I'm not sure that's a relative point. If they're going to upgrade their coach, I'm certain they're planning to shell out a heckuva lot more than Bezold made.

RE: Hats off to Larry Davis
These criteria make sense. It does limit his options, but also speaks to his current satisfaction. The criteria point directly at a mid-major job where the current coach has moved on. Ohio a few years back is probably the best example I can think of. Montana fits this criteria - they're a solid program - but Missoula (which I think is a great town) ain't for everyone.

They don't have a heckuva lot more than what Bez made. Unless they happen to hire someone married to a big money booster. Maybe that...

For what it's worth, someone pointed me to this blog on a coaching rumor website - http://hoopdirt.com/blog/24e8866b/northe...ucky-dirt/. It names Davis and the Wisconsin-Green Bay head coach as the leaders for the NKU job. They're both head scratchers to me. Green Bay to NKU would be a considerable step down, and I believe that Davis can hold out for something better.

Checking news this morning and saw that Brian Wardle, Green Bay's coach, landed the Bradley job. That makes more sense, and probably lends credence to this blog being somewhat bunk.

Agree he could get a better gig. There are going to be several jobs opening up in the next couple weeks (ie Buffalo, Wichita state, Rhode Island, Valpo, etc). He should be pushing for one of those.

The only thing I can think of is he does not want to leave the area.
