RE: Pat Forde on William Lee
I truly believe Watts and the BOT was waiting for Gene to pass away so that he could kill the football program. There is no way that Watts would have done it if Gene was still alive. And I completely understand the staunch supporters deep feelings and passion for football because that is what attracted them to UAB. I have those same feelings for the basketball program, the foundation for which UAB Athletics is built upon.

Initially, football did help basketball regain national prominence when we were associated with Louisville, Memphis, Cincy and others. But when football wasn't able to keep up with these programs and they left for greener pastures, basketball began to suffer. With or without football, I don't want to see basketball suffer anymore. So if there is any truth to MVC comment from Kevin I'm all for UAB joining that conference. If the AAC would have us, even better. But I want basketball to thrive and continue to go backwards.

This whole discussion is a tempest in a teapot. Take a look around. Conference affiliation is a pretty damned transient thing of late. Let's get basketball into the best conference we can because that will be the platform from which we launch football. WHEN, not IF.
