RE: Rice at ODU (Sat)
Another error by Ford puts two Monarchs on base with no outs. That's five if you're scoring at home. Tough day to be an Owl pitcher. In comes Ditman for Williamson.

Oof. Matty induces a double-play but the warm glow is short-lived. Next batter crushes a double and scores the remaining Monarch. 8-7 ODU. Rice in another hole. And then a wild pitch and a single dig the hole a little deeper. 9-7 ODU.

RE: Rice at ODU (Sat)
Kirby gets another hit, but the Owls go down without a run in T7. Down to our last 6 outs. Gotta stop the ODU scoring and get two runs of our own. 9-7 Monarchs. Wayne leaving Ditman in to pitch B7.

Matt sets down the Butterflies 1-2-3 in B7. Nice work to settle our nerves. Up to the bats now. Warren-Teykl-Chandler due up.

RE: Rice at ODU (Sat)
There we go. Charlie starts it off with a single, the Owls' 13th hit of the day.

Aw, man. Then Teykl lines into a double-play. That's a killer.

Especially cuz Ryan follows it up with a double. Would've been a tie ball game now; instead, Owl on 2nd, 2 down.

Oof. And Ford grounds out to end the inning. No runs. Zero. Owls still down 9-7. Only 3 outs left to try to save this series.

Terrible baserunning. Gets doubled off on line drive to SS. You should never get doubled on liner to left side. If it's a hit you only get to 2nd anyway.

Nice work by Matty. Another 1-2-3 inning for him. On to the top of 9. Up to the heart of our order to get it done and save the series. Byrd-Reeves-Taylor due up. Owls down 9-7.

Byrd leads off with a single!! That-a-boy!! That's his 3rd hit, and the 3rd hit for each of our top 3 batters.

Reeves and Byrd safe on an error by the shortstop. Wunderlich in to run for JC, representing the tying run at first.

Kirby with his 3rd hit now!! A single scores Byrd! 9-8 ODU. Wunderlich moves to 2nd, the tying run. Kirby is the winning run at 1st. No outs!! Come on, Tristan! Base hit!

And Gray sac bunts the runners into scoring position. Wunderlich to 3rd, Kirby to 2nd. Gone is the traditional DP threat. Up comes Hunter, who's 0-4 today.

Kopycinski really works the count, with many fouls ... but eventually wiffs on a 3-2 pitch. Grrr.

Two outs now. Tying run still at 3rd ... go-ahead run at second. Warren due up.

New pitcher coming in for ODU: Kryptonite ... I mean a left-handed pitcher ... Josephs.

Get an RBI hit off of him! (Or at least a wild pitch run!)

NOO!! Hunter strikes out with 1 out and Wunderboy at 3rd! Ugh… Need a hit here from Warren, or the series is lost.

New Butterfly coming in to face Charlie. Lefty.

Warren's AB:

Ball one.
Called strike.
High ... ball 2.
Low. Moans from the ODU crowd.
"Just away, BALL FOUR! Bases are loaded! And it comes down to Connor Tekyl."

"0-for-4 today ... 1-for-9 in the series."

Teykl's AB:

"Teykl needs a hit in the worst of ways."

Graham motions to the mound. Asking for a balk? (WG'd come out to talk with the ump before this AB.)

Called strike one.
... Perez comes in to talk with the pitcher
"Swing and a miss." 0-2.
... SS comes in to talk with the pitcher.
"Down and away." 1-2.
"Up high." 2-2.
"Slaps it foul to the left."
"Lofts it foul to the left side again."
"Fouled back again to the left side."
"Pops it up foul to the left."
"Pops it up foul above the light station (sis) on the left side, again."
"Loops it back foul, again."
"Drives it into right field!" ... Sliding catch. Game over. ODU wins, 9-8. They take the series. Grrr.

Dang it. Heartbreaker. I would not want to be in that dugout with the OG after all those wild pitches and 5 errors. So brutal. Come back strong tomorrow, guys, and salvage one game from the series. Go Owls.

And poor Matt gets the loss after pitching the best of all our pitchers today. 3 strong innings, and he gets the L. Sorry, dude.

RE: Rice at ODU (Sat)
There is no way we should lose a series to ODU. Except that, frankly, we're overranked right now. We can be better; we're just not, not now.
