RE: Kentucky Game Thread
Just listened to some of the post game interviews, Sanders was money, asked if it was a problem getting off shots, he said, nope, we had our chances down low and in close, we just did not make them.

Which is how they managed to beat us yet again this year at 5/3 arena. They recruit shooters and ball handlers and they know how to win. Yes they are likely to lose to Arizona and they lost three times to Villanova but those are both top 5 teams. Three Sweet 16's in five years is darn good.

What amazes me most about XU is the incredible luck they have in the transfers they get. Drew Lavender, Brian Thorton, Jordan Crawford, Tu Holloway (yes I know he technically wasn't a transfer, but no way he ends up at XU if Sampson didn't screw up) and now Matt Stainbrook. He's been a big reason why they've won a lot of games the past few years.

4 out of 5 of those guys are complete punks.

No thanks.......

Remember, we took a pass on Tu Holloway.

After looking through some of the reactions from Kentucky fans on their boards, I realized that they really hate us. They are convinced that our team and university are composed of thugs and crime. And, oddly, I would rather have them hate us than have them ignore us. In other words, we left a mark on them. That was awesome.

RE: Kentucky Game Thread
Very proud of UC. They really did everything they needed to hang with Kentucky yesterday except hit some outside shot and finish around the rim. I was amazed at how hard they hit the defensive glass. That's an area they struggled all season and an area that Kentucky really depends on for their offense. UC made it really hard on them.

The problem was UC seemed to just miss a lot around the rim (going against that kind of length can do that) and didn't hit outside shots to stretch UK. I know UK is long and exceptional inside defensively, but what impressed me most about UK yesterday was their perimeter defense. UC really struggled to get any separation outside. Good season and that game was a good measuring stick game. Next year UC should be a top 5 seed in the tournament. Very excited for the future of UC basketball.

Look at what people say on this board about UK- complete and total derision towards one of the top 3 or 4 programs in history, and clearly the best over the past 5 years.

Proud to be a Bearcat fan.

Listened to the game as we traveled. Been a while since I've done that. Thanks to Dan and Chuck for a great broadcast! We are lucky to have them both.

With another summer of hard work, I can't help but think Caupain will become a great point. He has the size, strength, attitude and intelligence to be outstanding.

And I hope and pray next season brings with it a new conference affiliation.

Don't forget Troy is 19 and still the youngest player on the team. I loved when I saw him getting yelling at one of his teammates yesterday. He needs to take that role as the teams leader. Even though his shooting percentage was awful yesterday he needs to continue to play with that fearlessness he showed yesterday.

Our inside play will be one of the best in the country next year. Can't believe we outrebounded UK and held them to 37%. Give Tay and Gary another 5-10 pounds of muscle and DeBerryCat another offseason of conditioning and you've really got something special.

Our most inconsistent play came from the 2-3 spots. I felt like Shaq had much better effort towards the end of the season and hope he takes that into his senior year. I really hope Evans is everything he is rumored to be.

I don't like measuring success on tournament results because I refuse to believe teams like Villanova didn't have outstanding years but with what we've got coming back our goal should be to earn a high seed and be an elite 8 quality team.

No, that's all in the definition of best. Championships? Uconn. Most lotto picks? Yes, probably UK.

What people have a problem with is how Cal operates and has operated throughout his career. And now he's even more brazen.

Look up "word wide wes". He has been power brokering NBA players for decades and now he's routing kids to UK for Cal. Between his agent like activities and UK's new NBA "combine" at the start of the year, you don't even have to wonder about payments or boosters or other back room nonsense. It's basically out in the open now.

From my perspective, the Cam Newton farce was the turning point for NCAA oversight. They had the goods on that guy, with money clearly going to his father, and it's decided that if they can't prove Cam knew about the cash, it's not a problem. The reality was that taking down a major SEC program in Auburn - and possibly working back to an even larger one in Florida (what, they got him for free but Auburn had to pay?) meant that the NCAA would be antagonizing a conference that increasingly controlled the college football landscape, and was sabre rattling about separating from the NCAA altogether to form their own league with their own rules - obviously including player payments.

Now a CBB blue blood - UNC - is caught flouting the rules to keep its players eligible, just a few years after its football program was revealed to do the same thing, and they're not even prohibited from playing in the tournament. O$U gets caught dirty and it gets a one year postseason ban - taking effect after their bowl game of course, where they may use the paid players in question. And they land Urban Meyer as a consolation.

That's why you see the vitriol against UK. You can't admire a program that has all the advantages to begin with and then cheats so blatantly on top of it. And as Cincy fans in particular, we who love to whine about the quality of our recruits - you watch Mick forge strong relationships with Marquise Teague, or Kemba Walker (yes, there have always been rumblings about Calhoun) only to lose them to programs who seem to play by a different set of rules.

Why don't we respect UK or OSU? Because the Washington Generals at least know what they're there for, meanwhile we're told that everything is on the up and up. Just try a little harder. Build some new facilities. Cheer louder. In my heart of hearts I know that doesn't get you there. You can built a mostly clean program and compete. But there's never going to be an even playing field. Personally I'd rather see a clean program, but then I believe in moral victories. Yesterday was one.

Yeah our bigs should be some of the best in the country next year. If Moore can step up take 10 minutes or so per game to give Clark some rest it would provide an even bigger boost.

The big thing that will take us from a good team to a great team will be wing play. Can Shaq finally take it to the next level and become a consistent scoring threat? Or if he can't can Evans or Scott do enough as a freshman to take Shaq's starting role.

Also it would be nice if Jenifer can take over as starting PG. Let Caupain move to a role as SG and Cobb can come off the bench for either position. Caupain has done well in his role as PG, but I think we could do better. And as SG Caupain may start to work more on creating his own shot.
