Aubrey Williams and Angel Aparicio to Graduate
Nick P. of The Blade just tweeted that Aubrey and Angel will be graduating, leaving two open scholarships.

Here is the breakdown of the scholarships for next season:

Senior: Nathan Boothe

Junior: Jordan Lauf, Zach Garber, Jon Jon Williams

Sophomore: Stuckey Mosley and Kurt Hall

Freshman: Nick Rogers, Taylor Adway, Luke Knapke, Jaelan Sanford, Chandler White

With 11 scholarships, will Coach K bring in a JUCO or graduate transfer or bank them for next year as they will only have one scholarship open after Boothe graduates?

Great post Rob....

My gut instinct is that UT will bring in one more JC 6:06 or taller wing/C/F as part of 2015 class and then bank the 2nd open schollie for 2016 so UT has 2 slots and more balanced class populations

I wouldn't bring in a "one and done" graduate transfer now. This squad will be a season away, IMO. Get a JUCO low post player who will be able to contribute for at least 2 seasons (maybe even 3 if they've just finished their first JUCO season), and bank the other scholarship.

Good luck to both Angel & Aubrey!

Agree about getting an athletic 6-6/6-7 Juco for next season. Bank one scholarship for next year and redshirt one of the incoming freshmen to balance the classes.

Get an Ohio kid. Someone who will play hard and knows how to finish. As much as I love JD and his athletic ability, there were better 4's in this league offensively, and many better defensively.

Not sure how athletic JD was. Jumped great but awkward as could be. A bit of Rodman in him. Had big time strengths and big time limitations. Which is why we got him, and I'm glad we did.

RE: Aubrey Williams and Angel Aparicio to Graduate
congrats to the braniacs. that's a fast push through a college curriculum.

i would think how the staff uses the 2 scholarships will depend on if they plan to rs any of the frosh. if that's the plan they might not save any for 16-17 recruiting class.

this also allows them to go after high level players. if the kids they want go elsewhere they can bank the scholarships. next year's team is pretty balanced as is (post-booths/garber, forward-adway/knapke, big wing laud/hall, shooting guard-williams/white, ball handlers-mosley/sanford/rogers.

if anything, i'd want 1 more bigger guy with versatility who can rebound and guard guys in the 6-6 to 6-8 range.

coach k rarely recruits jc players. i would think a transfer might be in the works, though, especially if they ended up in hall and mosley's class

I seem to recall that Coach K once mentioned on his radio show that he is not a big fan of JUCO transfers, so I am not sure if he would go that route at this point in time

I would almost bet on a least one transfer I would also hope for a power forward type 5th year player or Juco I would think the 5th year senior being the more likely scenario

They will bank at least one Scholarship so they have at least 2 for next year. I don't think they will bring in another freshman unless it is someone who is a 4 or 5 star and we all know that is unlikely.

Congratulations to the young men!!!

Per the web site verbalcommits.com, Toledo has 10 outstanding offers to high school seniors. I believe Coach K is building a program and needs 4 year type players to do it. He wouldn't have given out all these offers unless he knew there would be more positions opening up. Give the man credit, he has a plan and is not just reacting to events.

It is pretty much standard operating procedure to offer way more scholarships than a program can actually give away.

This is the first time I can recall schollies opening up because the student athletes got their degrees early.

Congratulations to Aubrey Williams and Angel Aparicio!

A "one and done" player would help distribute the scholarships evenly in the future with Boothe being the only senior next season (as of right now). It could cause some issues down the road, similar to what we've seen with the women's program recently.

I give a lot of credit to Coach Tod! He allowed 2 players with little to no chance at helping us stay on the team, get their degrees and not "run them off" when running them would have given him the chance to get others. For all this program has endured since the GC days, I give TK a lot of credit for doing it the right way. Go Rockets.

If they want roster balance for future recruiting, these two spots would be filled with a "one and done" ready to play (5th year graduate, maybe) for the Class of 2016 (with Boothe) and a transfer or JUCO in the Class of 2018 (with Stuckey and Hall).

If he will consider Chicago State he will consider anyone. Coach TK can watch him in the state finals next week against Jaelen Sanford

Well, we aren't in his "top 7", and the rest of that list is a bit more than just "anyone", don't you think?

But maybe he and Sanford will hit it off and we can get them back on the same court together!
