Remember Buzz Peterson
When Stan Joplin was fired, the talk was that former North Carolina player and Tennessee head coach Buzz Peterson was UT's top choice. Apparently money was a problem, but Peterson ended up taking a low paying job at Appalachian State the next season and Toledo hired Gene Cross.

Peterson went 24-13 at App State, but bolted his home-town school after one year for a big pay raise at UNC-Wilmington. He went 13-17,10-20,10-20 and 9-13 at UNCW and was fired last season.

Two losers. Cross was a bum, he had no idea on how to coach a basketball team.

Cross was always beating the bushes looking for more players. I understand he had some success down at the "Y".

RE: Remember Buzz Peterson
I've always wondered if Brey helped get Cross the job at Toledo to get rid of him - not that it (Amstutz) hasn't happened (West) before. Saw Brey's interview yesterday where he told everyone at the post game that his mom had passed away in the morning - then spent a few seconds talking about her. No drama and didn't tell the players before the game. Gave me respect for him that I really didn't have before - so it is possible that Cross only acted that way when he became a head coach, got more money, and had no one around most of the time that he had to answer to. I still bet he was a problem at ND and Brey seized the opportunity to get him out.
