We would like your suggestions too Longhorn. Nobody is "correct" on design preference.
Based on what you have seen, what do you suggest?
Is everything perfect in your opinion?
There is no need to wait. Let's get everyone's opinion out there.

I agree, even if it pains me to say that we should have a similar arena to towson of all schools. We don't need anything bigger. It would just look pitifully empty.
We can take their design and add in Duke dog instead and I'd be okay with that.

My suggestions for JMU fans regarding the project are to step back and relax, while keeping in mind that this project is not just an athletic facility, but rather a modern, multipurpose building meant to serve the university's needs for the next 35+ years.
Final plans for the structure do not yet exist, and I am confident JMU will solicit feedback from potential users about the desirable features/attributes of the building when the time is right (just like the BFS design/build process which I think resulted in a successful outcome).
It is still relatively early in the architectural design process. Generating ideas about what will be built (as inspired by small and incomplete architectural renderings) may seem worthwhile to some fans, however, I just don't see it as the most productive use of my time.

So Hart, you think the students need chairbacks w/ cup holders or just bleachers?

The one gripe I had with the artist rendering w the wall on the upper deck of one of the sidelines (with JMU logo) was how bad that would be for concerts... If you really want a wall put it on one of the baseline upper decks so you can have a standard concert format in arenas where they block off one baseline for the stage.

I have no doubt the facility will be fantastic, we build buildings well.
We can then boast that we have outspent the entire CAA combined on athletic facilities:
football stadium (video board costs more than stadiums)
basketball coliseum (a double decker beauty)
soccer (entire sports complex)
baseball (entire sports complex)
softball (entire sports complex)
And all we need in return are 7 CAA championships a year
-left handed table tennis
-hopscotch
-railroad tie counting
-mixed gender burlap sack racing
-underwater breath holding contest
-curling
-group jump roping

Didn't we already do this thread once?
Quote: let's keep in mind (and NO don't take this the wrong way) that we aren't building this for a game on 2017 or whenever. This needs to be built with more like 2030 in mind, or even beyond.
When was the Convo built? 30 years ago and counting? Well then we should fully expect to be using this next place til mid-century.
Yep, hard to believe. My kids kids will be b!tching about what the New Convo should be like in 2045! JMU @ 38,000 and Harrisonburg/ Rockingham is topping 200k.
We might need to build bigger!
This is why we're not building anything "Towson, circa 2013".
When it's you, your new bride and the obligatory dog, do you move into a 2 bedroom, 1 bath house when Jr #1 is coming along? Or do you plan for however many little parasites you "plan" to have? 3, 5, 10 years down the road?
It does, though, need to be built as a Basketball first kinda place. Not another non-descript multi-purpose "facility", jack of all trades, master of none type gig.
I'm confident that can and will be done.

Yeah, what the heck is wrong with you people? It's not like they'd over build and create a lopsided half-complete facility. Just take a look at these recent renderings. I think it's very well thought out for our current and future needs.

Okay, no opinion from Longhorn. Kind of of out of character.
IMO, there is no harm in stating what you are looking for in a new arena.

2Buck, that design won't work. It needs to have half of the current convo present on the lower side. A half built convo is the only way to go. We may get around to finishing it sometime before 2050.

Why does anyone give a rat if some want to share thoughts on what they would do if given the opportunity to have a little input on a new arena? There has been no bad mouthing anyone as it relates to what we might like to see. Some cannot stand to see people using their brain on a topic in which they have no interest of their own. It doesn't matter whether arena configurations are utilized or not, it's no more than simple constructive thoughts. I have prior experience in commercial design and construction. It interest me. If this topic doesn't interest you, then move along to another thread. Even better idea, start one in an area of your own interest.

Sports architecture is a highly specialized area of design. If you think experience in "commercial construction" qualifies you to contribute to the finalized form of the new convo have at it. It's your time to waste.
