Most of you know that my family lives overseas. My 15 year old daughter needs a second hip surgery and this one we are not doing overseas.

Do any of you have contacts with a UAB orthopedist who specializes in hip arthroscopy? I am not looking for a charity case, we have good insurance. I just need a contact to get in to see a surgeon. :)

It is hard enough to get an appointment to see a surgeon but when you live overseas it gets even more complicated. If you personally have a contact with someone you recommend, please let me know.

William Garth has done two scopes on my knees with good results. That was about 20 years ago though.

BTR check out Childrens to see if they have a specialist. I imagine they do.

Dr Reed Estes. He is in the same clinic as Dr Garth, is one of the team ortho's and has a hip sub-specialty. If I was getting hip surgery by a UAB Doc, it would be him!!!

Bother BTR, I have a good general ortho surgeon friend I was deployed to AFG with who is doing a sports ortho fellowship down there now. I'll give him a poke and see if he names any specifics as well as an inside on the referral if possible.
What time frame are you looking at?

Hi all! Thanks for your suggestions. It is always surprising to me when we get into the U.S. Healthcare system how long some things can take... Even with great insurance.

Overseas if you have the money... Come on in and we will see you NOW :)

fortunately we were able to get in to see a sports doc at St Vincent's. The surgery is in about a week. Hopefully she will be back in Peru within three weeks.
