Change the shot clock to 30 seconds?
I watched USC Upstate play James Madison in the CIT with a 30 second shot clock. The pace was much faster. Athleticism, good guard play, and bigs that can run the floor were rewarded.

Watching the NCAAT (haven't watched much regular season basketball ... as a Georgia Tech fan who can blame me?) it is just painful. A slow walk up the court each side. Lots of dribbling standing still 6 feet out of the three point line. Swinging back and forth and back and forth across the perimeter. Followed inevitably by a three late or a questionable dribble drive into traffic. I'm so sick of 40 and 50 point games. Boring. As. Hell.

So what do you say about moving the shot clock down to 30?

Definitely make the shot clock 30 seconds for all of CBB.

Another thing that makes the NCAA tournament less enjoyable to watch is the length of the commercial breaks. It's bad enough that there are so many coaches' timeouts and TV timeouts, it's worse that each one seems to last 5 minutes.

Wrong, the TV timeouts late in the game are 30 seconds.

I went to the NAU-GCU CIT game last night - I liked the 30-second shot clock.

It did affect the game a few times - hurried shots to beat the buzzer, winded players at the end, but those are both things that teams can adjust too if the whole season was played under those conditions.

No... Do we really want to go to schools forgetting how to play team fundamentals?

Right. The clock has nothing to do with it.

I don't have any problem with 30 seconds, but as a cure for sloppy play, it probably makes things worse.

I would like them to mimic the NBA and go with a 24 second shot clock.

So would I. Coach K said recently that he also favors it, and he said that college players don't have a problem with a 24-second clock when they play international games.

But 30 would be an improvement over 35.

Been banging for 24 Second Shot Clock for a while...join the rest of the World...3 Second Lane should be FIBA size as should be the Restricted No Charge Zone...also 8 Seconds to Cross the Time Line.

I could live with these changes. Also wouldn't mind the three point line being a littler farther out.

Agreed...International 3 Point Line...and actually call fouls...would clean up the game and make it more free flowing...04-cheers

Mid-range jumpers have gone away as the 3 pointer is too easy now that everyone is used to it. I like the international 3 point line-NBA is a little too far for college.

I like the international trapezoid as well.

If they want to increase scoring and make the game flow better-CALL FOULS. In a year players will adjust. Players already have to adjust somewhat game to game with different refs.

I don't like the NBA 24 second clock. Too much running up and down and rushing for college players.

RE: Change the shot clock to 30 seconds?
How about a shot clock that starts out at 35 seconds at the beginning of the half, then goes down 1 second for every minute played in the half. In other words

At 20:00 = shot clock is 35 seconds
At 19:00 = shot clock is 34 seconds
At 15:00 = shot clock is 30 seconds
At 10:00 = shot clock is 25 seconds
At 5:00 = shot clock is 20 secs.
At 1:00 = shot clock is 16 secs.

1 thing they need to do is the NBA rule I think where if a foul is committed with less than 14 seconds on the shot clock, the shot clock only resets to 14 and not full. If it's over 14 seconds, the shot clock doesn't reset.

RE: Change the shot clock to 30 seconds?
I really hate that idea. Will scoring go up? Perhaps - but it's just as likely that we'd end up with just more sh*tty possessions per game. I'd like to see the refs and the conferences and networks have the stones to actually call games more closely as the rules state, as was the intention at the start of last year. Many complained about ugly foul-fests, but the coaches were simply waiting out the refs and looking forward to when they'd call the games more loosely due to the outcry.

Get serious about it and keep calling it close all year long (including and perhaps especially in the tournament) and teams and players will adjust once it's clear that they can't just bide their time for things to go back to "normal".

Agree.

They called things a lot differently prior to the early 80s when the rough style of the Big East took over.
