Let's not kid ourselves. Their win will do very little for our conference.

It will if the rest of the slackers start to give a crap about hoops. Georgia Southern has already done a great job with their turnaround. So, props to you guys. But why the negative sentiment? I'd be pulling for Southern if Ferguson had hit that circus shot.

I'm really happy for Ga State, but he's right. I listened to the radio broadcast and they didn't even mention the word "Sun Belt" during the second half.

That's pretty much my point, smart guy. We'll only come up in the world if the other schools in the conference commit to basketball. Southern's already doing it. Kudos. Even if national media said the conference name a million times, we have to repeat success next year for this to matter.

The class of the conference (Georgia State) will be at the same level next year, or even a bit better, regardless of RJ's decision. Are the rest of y'all ready?

If RJ comes back, wow ... Ga State should be really good.

UL will be improved, significantly if Shawn Long stays.

I know Ga Southern loses alot, and ULM loses some too.

Should be a better year hopefully next year with 3 teams having postseason success.

There are 1.6 Million reasons why this is good for the conference.

Just think about those reasons if GSU somehow manages to beat Xavier Saturday...

USA will be better next year as well. We will have more depth next year and bring in a couple nice players, one being 7'1" who is redshirting this year with 4 to play. I'm not proclaiming that we will win the league, but we won't be as bad as this year.

Yea - really - geez some of you guys are choads.

Good win for Ga State ... and good for the conference don't be stupid.

They just contributed more to the conference than anybody else has this season. In fact getting in to the second round, they are about to really help the conference significantly.

So whoever mentioned that they could have been blown out or win the game, and it makes no difference may not be totally informed about how things work. Not a surprise from some here.

These unit $$ can be potentially used by the conference for better events and pub.

I say potentially because .... Krazy Karl.

Potentially he could share it to all member schools and we could use it to buy better games, attend tourney's, etc.

Holy hell - some of the posters on this board are newb amateurs to anything but football, that really makes some of you guys unbearable.

It's like going up the down escalator around here. No matter what happens the conference is headed in the wrong direction. Great win for the conference, period...03-banghead

Not everyone...

Anyway, just because the announcers didn't say Sun Belt, doesn't mean it won't be good. Some have already mentioned money, so I'll leave that one alone. But I've already heard a couple of people say something about GSU and I mentioned how UTA played in the same conference. People may have a short memory, but they way they won will keep the memory going, a la a Northwestern St vs. Iowa last second bucket.

Yeah, this team will be loaded if RJ comes back. Jeremy Hollowell [Indiana Starter] and Isiah Williams [Socon freshman of year] will be stepping in along with Jeff Thomas (would've been a starter on this year's team). Both Williams and Thomas can shoot the 3 like no one's business either.

Plus we still have 2 scholarships that are available, but 3 if RJ declares for the NBA. Going to be fun just like this year.

good lord some people have skin thinner than the lacquer coating that separated Coach Hunter from the wood after RJ hit the game winning shot.

It was brought up that this win was great for the conference, and I responded that outside of money, this win doesn't do anything to change people's perception of the league. Don't get your panties in a bunch.

It was a great win for Ga State. It is getting them a ton of press and air time. They will certainly enjoy this and remember this win for a long time, and that is awesome for their fans to have something like this to celebrate. It was a big upset. CONGRATS!
Their win will do as much for the Sun Belt as us beating UF did for the SoCon or the Sun Belt.

I swear to god some of you on here just want to find a reason to be offended or get upset at something.

I'm not offended. You seem to be. Recognizing it for what it is. Recognition on a national scale is huge. Keep it up G state!

I swear some fans can't let a program celebrate for one hour with grasping for an angle to say something negative.

If you had the common decency to start by congratulating them instead of jumping into any negative spin you could grasp maybe people would have seen your point.

To say it does nothing is inaccurate, you didn't include money in your first post and for a program that is in the bottom 3 in budget money seems like an important metric.

See my pevious post about not being stupid.

This win did infinitely more than the Ga South win over Florida for the belt.

And I say infinitely because, you are correct about one thing, the Ga South win over Fla did zero for the conference.

So again, just to educated the obviously confused on NCAA athletics, and being a part of a somewhat real conference:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/s...caa-money/

[img]Playing for more than pride
The 68 teams in this year's tournament are playing for an estimated $220 million the NCAA will split up among the 32 conferences. How much money each conference gets depends on how many units its teams earn. This year, 132 units are up for grabs.

Each unit awarded guarantees a yearly payment from the NCAA to the conference for six years. Every unit a team picks up this year will win its conference a projected $1.67 million over six years.[/img]

and yet, not 1 more person will care any more about the sun belt, or think that the sun belt is any better of a conference. my comments are about perception of our league, which means just as much as winning money, which I am glad they are doing for us. Until the sun belt is perceived as a better league, we still will not be able to demand more tv games nor will we garner any national attention during the regular season.

Ga State has done its job. Now the rest of the belt needs to step up to really make a difference.

So you think possible additional marketing funds, or distributions for buying P5 games, or additional funding for helping teams get possible bowl bids, does not help the perception of the conference?

You guys are a hoot! Just having EpicCajun say something positive about the conference is enough for me to post such annoying video and as for Saint333333 just the usual obsessive compulsive looking for an opportunity to say something negative about GS. "They will never get it". Get what?
