RE: Shields out at UALR
Shields had his time in the sun, but this is probably the right move. Sometimes good coaches can just get stale and the game passes them by in certain respects. It's no indictment on his career, but for UALR it's time for new blood. This is akin to Ronnie Arrow at USA; he was/is a great coach, but his coaching style doesn't mesh well with the mindset of today's players and we were stagnant at best.

As the carousel turns there will be some decent names and good coaches available. Don't count out guys like Anthony Grant that was fired at Alabama on Monday. He's a good coach that was very successful at the mid-major level.

Steve always got the most out of the talent we had. Some believe someone else can come in a recruit better talent to Little Rock. I guess we'll find out. I do think the new coach will have pretty good talent coming back- few will be in a position to transfer either because they are seniors or already have had a redshirt year.

It was time. Steve just ran out of steam. In the wn years we under produced and it just kept falling off.

He is a great person, no doubt whatsoever about that. He is a good, good man but a change was desperately needed.

Isn't this "great person" Steve Shields the same person who went into the stands at South Alabama to fight a student who was heckling him?

Like everyone, he had some good points and some bad. He did have a way to get maximum effort out of players with average talent.

Steve had some issues, got them addressed and was a pretty good citizen afterwards. Ain't gonna dog him for that, the man who refuses to see a problem or refuses to change is the one I don't care for.

Personally i liked steve a lot.

Ualr needs to step and commit to being the flagship basketball program of the sbc.

Every school in the sbc should have that goal and try to hire the people that can make it happen.
