The big surprise today is Villanova. I was expecting Villanova and at least one of Xavier, Butler and Georgetown to advance.

How could you not have expected Xavier to win? Playing a 14 seed- normally speaking, when one of those wins a game, that's it. I was expecting those 2 wins, and then hoping Georgetown would win with the higher seed(and then especially with how we started out the game). Really wasn't counting on Butler because they were playing a darn good Notre Dame team... So I was in that 2-3 range.

Bottom line, what today was/is was a lost opportunity. Today was a chance to pretty much shut up our critics.

RE: NCAA tourney
Let's just say this. If Georgetown had beaten Utah, but Georgia St had upset Xavier- it would have been worse for the Big East. We got lucky in some ways that the 1 team that did win was Xavier.

RE: NCAA tourney
I expected Villanova/Xavier to win and Georgetown/Butler to lose.

RE: NCAA tourney
I thought Nova and X would win, and then Georgetown pretty close to a toss-up. Thought Butler would lose only because Notre Dame has been playing so well recently. Butler played a great Butler like game(really thought they were going to win in regulation).

RE: NCAA tourney
so updating for results after this tourney since the tourney expanded to 68.
1 20-0
2 17-3
3 16-4/1-0 vs pig
4 17-3/0-1 vs pig
5 11-9/2-1 vs pig
6 10-10/2-3 vs pig
7 14-6
8 15-5

I think it's interesting that PIG teams are 5-5 2nd round. Means either the committee is doing a horrible job seeding those last few teams, or there's a huge advantage in playing a game before hand.

I think the other notable thing is the committee is doing a terrible job seeding the 7/10 and 8/9 games. No way in heck the 7's should be 14-6 last 5 years or 8s 15-5.

RE: NCAA tourney
regarding the PIG- interesting comment from Ed Cooley-
http://www.coxhub.com/articles/ed-cooley...ce=twitter

The one factor that bothers me....and I don't know how the committee could ever change it or fix it — but the layoff and preparation factor is a different animal if you're playing the winner of a play-in game. We had a great season and earned a 6 seed in the tournament. However, after finding out our fate on Selection Sunday, we don't get to prepare with our kids for the Friday night opponent until Thursday afternoon.

RE: NCAA tourney
for the record- here is the 2006-10 period(the 5 years before the expansion to 68):
1 20-0/20-0 last 5 years
2 20-0/17-3
3 18-2/16-4
4 15-5/17-3
5 12-8/11-9
6 12-8/10-10
7 11-9/14-6
8 10-10/15-5

really amazing seeing the differences in the years. The previous 5 years would be like you would think it should be- a pretty linear relationship. Just hasn't been the case recently.
