1- the play-in games go to all 16 vs 16's.
2- the play-in games expand us up to 72 teams.

If they go 16 vs 16's-
61 Texas Southern
62 North Dakota St
63 Lafayette
64 Coastal Carolina
65 North Florida
66 Robert Morris
67 Manhattan
68 Hampton
Your 15 seeds then become 57-60
57 UAB
58 Albany
59 New Mexico St
60 Belmont
Your 14 seeds become 53-56
53 E Washington
54 UC Irvine
55 Georgia St
56 Northeastern
Your 13 seeds become 49-52
49 Wofford
50 Stephen F Austin
51 Valpairaiso
52 Harvard
Your 12 seeds become 45-48
45 Boise St
46 Dayton
47 Wyoming
48 Buffalo
Your 11 seeds become 41-44
41 Texas
42 UCLA
43 Ole Miss
44 BYU

The 13 line becomes much stronger.

Lord I hope not. If anything I wish it go back to 64. Of course, I know that will never happen. The regular season almost means nothing now.

I doubt we'll see #1. I would bet money on one of the reasons they didn't do that in the first place was to put some bigger name teams in the so-called first round.

If it's all 16's, then they'd all be low level conference champions and not attract many viewers, like the old play-in game.

I do think #2 is inevitable.

RE: BYU's AD must be proud
If they just want to make more money for CBS/Turner, they could easily scrap the First Four and still make more money by giving them another TV window.

For example: Take two of the Thursday pods and rearrange the schedule a bit. Using this year to illustrate, current Thursday schedule in Pittsburgh has (from early to late games)

Notre Dame/Northeastern
Butler/Texas
Villanova/Lafayette
NC State/LSU

Instead of playing all four on Thursday, play Notre Dame/Northeastern and Butler/Texas on Wednesday evening and Villanova/Lafayette and NC State/LSU on Thursday evening. (The Wednesday winners would play each other on Saturday, the Thursday winners would play each other on Saturday, there would be no change in the bracket itself.)

Do the same with one of the other pods, so that there are two pods playing two Wednesday night games each.

The Wednesday TV window with more "name" teams involved would be more valuable to TV than the current Tuesday and Wednesday windows combined.

Want to create even more TV value and still stick with 64 teams? Spread out the games on the 2nd weekend, as well, so that instead of playing 4 games each on Thursday and Friday, play 2 on Wednesday, 2 on Thursday and 4 on Friday. Wednesday winners play each other on Saturday, Thursday winners play each other on Saturday, Friday winners play each other on Sunday. Another TV window for CBS and Turner. Cha-ching.

There would be more value for the TV guys in this 64-team bracket than there is in the current 68-team bracket. The First Four adds little; they could dump it and still make more money.

I think if a school's AD is on the committee, that school either needs to be clearly in, or out.

Not among the last four in!

That doesn't pass the smell test, despite the "rule" that the AD is not supposed to be present for conversations regarding his school.

Yup. The AD didn't have to be in the room to make a difference. Surviving prison 101 - You take care of me and I'll take care of you...

This selection committee was no better than FIFA selecting a World Cup host. 07-coffee3

It appears the committee got it right---- Colorado St is getting blown out in their home gym vs the jackrabbits from S. Dakota.

Sure, the Rams weren't motivated after getting snubbed but they are a #1 seed at home and got BEAT.

we'll see the next 2 day how the middling majors do. 3 of the other 4 first teams out(including the first team out, Temple) won their 1st rd NIT games.

All due respect, sir -- you appear to be thinking like a fan instead of a business person. Nobody wants to watch 4 play-in games featuring "16 vs 16", and it would be a waste of TV air time.

If it made the regular tournament even better, it wouldn't be a waste of TV air time. And the thing is, the power conferences are going to tire at some point of having their teams going to Dayton instead of the smaller conference teams. I think that point is near.

RE: BYU's AD must be proud
I lose interest in this thing more and more when the television concerns arise. I know the kids are getting hosed in this, but television has already spoiled this experience enough. Watch the lovely coverage today of every stoppage lasting about a minute (even for short time-outs) and the seemingly endless "television timeouts." With lax NCAA oversight, NBA aimlessness, and greed already hurting this game, television is taking its shots. I used to take these Thursdays and Fridays off so I could enjoy the games...it's basically unwatchable, and it's not the same game. Oh well.

As for CSU...what incentive do they have playing in the NIT? Kings of the also-rans?

And the other shoe dropped last night. Last four in Boise, whose conference commissioner chaired the committee, lost to Dayton.

It reeks of cronyism.
