OK, so I saw this originally on the Lounge/Conference Realignment forum, and it is tangential to UC Sports, but since it has been talked about in regards to UC, it appears that the University of Akron is at least considering changing their name to some sort of "Ohio Poly"/"Ohio Tech" idea...

I thought this was going to be about mascot names and the Zips was an obscure native American tribe.

Probably a good call by the school, so they can avoid the embarrassment of being associated with the dump of a city that is Akron.

I suppose it's better to be named after the dump of a state that is Ohio.

Yes but there are at least levels of dumpiness, and even some pockets of non-dumpiness within in Ohio. Whereas all of Akron is a dump and an extreme dump at that. 03-lol

Which is why Columbus came up with the name "Ohio State" to begin with 03-nerner
