So many of you are describing what TheRevSWT said as an analogy. This forum should not be an English class as most, if not all, on here are college educated people, but look again at what he said:

"There will always be Liberty threads. They are very similar to herpes: You can have no sign of a Liberty poster for months, and then bam... a breakout happens. This is the time that the sores known as Liberty posters come out and hang on, taking any form of information as a sign that Liberty is being discussed and allowing them to chime in."

I'm hoping you can see the difference, that one compares, the other replaces.

I'm sorry if it seems like I'm harping on this subject, but it's one thing to combat someone's actions, it's something totally different to denigrate a person with whom you do not agree. I certainly believe people on this board are intelligent enough to be able to do that.

Soooo, what you've "bolded". . . . You're taking that as a literal interpretation?

If so, ease up . . . I think that most posters here that read the post took it the way it was intended, as a humorous analogy . . .. If you see anything else, you're reading way too much into it . . . . .

Also, you state that he "denigrates a person." If I read the post correctly, he denigrates ALL Liberty posters, a big difference, but again, I just took it as a humorous analogy . . . .

I have a tendency to take advice better when it's a suggestion, not an order. And for those who see such attacks as humorous, their families have my sympathy.

Do you often struggle with reading comprehension? No order was given, in point of fact it WAS a suggestion. But truth be told, you strike me as a guy who is often caught up in "righteous indignation " at slights real/imagined . .

The original post was an attempt at humor, perhaps a poor attempt, but an attempt Nevertheles. It was NOT as you suggest, a personal attack. . . .

But if you're the type that looks to be offended, I suppose Offense can be easily taken.

And keep your sympathy . . Lighten up Francis . . . . .

No struggle on my part. "Ease up" is a command, "I suggest you ease up" is a suggestion. I wonder how you made it to high school if you don't understand that.

You aren't the one who made the post, so how do you know it wasn't meant to be a personal attack?

The attack wasn't directed to me. I'm not a Liberty University fan or supporter.

My sympathy wasn't for you, it's for your family.

Gee, another command. I wonder who Francis is.

You're Francis and you need to lighten up. This is an internet message board. Stop taking yourself so seriously. No one cares. I have sympathy for your family. Live long and prosper. Vaya con Dios. May the force be with you and shalom.

If you aren't the one who made the post, how can you claim it WAS a personal attack?

More to the point, did the original poster (i.e., me) state anyone specifically? Or did he call out a GROUP using a generalization which is quite common on boards?

So, quite a bit of hypocrisy, deciding that it was a personal attack, when no person was named, and not knowing the intent of the message (as you pointed out yourself).

Re: Herpes/Liberty analogy, I think HIV is more appropriate

-There isn't a known cure at this point
-It is often (rightly or wrongly) associated with homosexuality
-It has at times caused our immune system (MODS) to turn on our own cells (posters who support a member school)
-The discussion is always uncomfortable
-Without a powerful daily drug cocktail (competent expansion decisions by the SBC presidents), it may result in AIDS (Liberty joining the conference)

Thanks for making my point(s) -

1. You're not only easily offended, but clearly looking to be offended.
2. Reading Comp.: I never said your sympathy was for me, I know where you directed it, I said You can keep your sympathy.

I wonder how YOU made it through high school if you don't understand that.

You're right about one thing: I didn't make the post. So if you wanna be butt hurt about it, that's your right . . .

I'm not claiming anything. Your words and how you grouped them indicate a personal attack.

A personal attack can be on a group, not just an individual. The fact that you lumped many people into your insult just makes it all the more disgusting. The fact that you believe such insults are common on message boards does not make it right to do so.

Whether you intended it to be a personal attack or not, it is a personal attack. I understand that it can be irritating to you for fans of the Liberty University athletic program to constantly come into this forum and extol the virtues of their teams and why they would be good conference members, but that doesn't mean you have to label them in a condescending way. I didn't like it when North Texas, FIU, FAU and MTSU left the Sun Belt, but I didn't call them liars, cowards or stupid for doing so, I just said they were wrong and they made a mistake, and I moved on. I know your issue is current and ongoing with the Liberty fans, but I would like to hope you can confine yourself to combating their words, their actions, not the person.

Quite to the contrary, you decided it was a personal attack. As several others have stated, it wasn't taken as an attack, so clearly there is room for interpretation.

And I would like to hope that you can overcome your senseless need to feel butthurt over something that was a) clearly a joke, and b) still pretty danged apt.

However, I sincerely doubt you will.

Yes, well, most people who can't tell the difference between right and wrong will normally see insults as jokes. What an impact they are making on the next generation.

Now if my line of thinking was the same as your I could take your above statement as an insult to me personally. You have just stated that posters on this site and ValleyBoy being one of them that saw Rev's 1st post in a different light than you did Do not know the difference between right and wrong. Your words Icitsh not mine can be taken in the same light as Rev's post.

The difference is that I am more open minded and am able to see the difference where as your mind is still closed an can not see the difference. Now there is nothing wrong with this line of thinking just because each one of us is different. On a different subject I might be the one with a closed mind whereas you on the other hand have an open mind on that subject. That just human nature.
