He already put in the high school work and college work to get to that point. What other option does he have to get any amount of money that is relatively similar?

He isn't famous yet, although he sure seems willing to try, so he cant garner big money elsewhere.

So what's your point? That he isn't in the scenario as Jim Brown? I agree.

What he's doing is much more noble than walking away from the game for a Hollywood career.

All the locker room leaders of The 49ers are either retiring or making it clear they wont resign with The 49ers.

If the 49ers were looking to be a championship organization this season, with Harbaugh still the coach - would Borland still have retired?

Undoubtedly yes.

He's walking away from millions of dollars in contract money alone, not to mention endorsements and the fame that goes along with all of that, along with accolades like Pro-Bowls and who knows what else.

At least he's bringing attention to something that needs to be brought out in the public, on his way out. He could've just kept quiet and retired for "personal reasons", but he's being a whistle blower.

Guy deserves a medal.

Undoubtedly yes? 03-lmfao

If you say so. He isn't walking away from millions yet. He isn't out of his rookie contract and a 24 year old retiring? He could easily come back once his contract is let go. He doesn't have the standing that veterans have though. He cant be upfront about wanting out of San Fran...he needs a con.

So for the NFL to silence him, they need to talk San Fran into trading him. It will happen after the story dies down and Borland agrees to go quiet.

I see that you are dying for a hero to show up. If this guy came out of a camp that was in good order then I might agree with you but he didn't. He came from a camp in shambles.

Sounds like you have the caper solved. It's just a big lie, to get out of his contract and come back to the game for a different team in a couple years (or sooner).

At least, he's putting some spotlight on an issue that needs light shined on it.

Heck, maybe the NFL is making him do this? You know, paid him off to pretend he's concerned about concussions to invoke public pressure to make real changes to the game?

I guess time will tell.

In the meantime, I think we'll just have to agree to disagree as neither of us has a shred of proof to back up our opinions.

You don't get a "medal" for putting your own health 1st... I used to smoke. I stopped. Do I get a medal? How about a hero cookie?

I think he is pragmatic. He is decent. He mayu serve as a guide for other players...to think about their health. The concussion/CTE thing has been out of the bag for several years now though. jmo.

If it were as ho-hum as you say, it wouldn't be getting national media coverage.

Hey look, I am not saying his choice of crusade is a bad one or that it isn't worthy. I am just saying that there is more to this than is presented. I just find it amusing to see how defensive some of you get when someone presents a situation that is deeper than the usual shallow story spoon fed to folks by repeating media.

I do have proof of my opinion. Perhaps you should read more. All the issues going on at San Fran are for the most part, right out there in the public. It gets even worse within the organization. They have nearly every team leader refusing to return and taking free agent contracts elsewhere or simply retiring.

You guys are so desperately trying to ignore the bigger picture at San Fran in this story because you desperately want this guy to be a good guy.

Whistle blower? 03-lmfao

My god, what will you call him next? Jesus?

That is about as big of a jump as taking him to "medal earning whistle blower" status. You really do need this guy to be a hero don't you? I was just joking with such comments before but after seeing this comment of yours, it's true.

You have proof that he's lying about his concern for concussions? An email, perhaps?

Ok, now you are just trolling me with that "Saving" comment after I brought Jesus into it. Well done though. 04-cheers

This country now has an active anti football movement. George Will (baseball guy) on the right. NPR and CNN (soccer crowd). They are all over this story and anybody who tries to defend football gets labeled (They are carrying the NFL's water).

You know the game. Anyone who disagrees with our current President is a racist.

I'm afraid I don't know that particular game.

I do know that some people read and hear whatever it is that they want to read and hear, though.

Vanderbilt QB Patton Robinette, citing health concerns, calls it quits.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/stor...h-concerns

And then there's Michigan Center Jack Miller.

As bad as Vanderbilt was last year and most likely this upcoming season, I suspect Robinette would've seen a lot of playing time. He probably knew his team would suck and decided to save his brain for medical school - but as a student.

Actually after I posted I read up on the kid and he would have opened the season as a starter. He said he wants to eventually be the Vandy team doc. Making the grades was most important... concussion concern was a lesser factor, but a factor nonetheless. 04-cheers
