Northern Star Article with SF on "Cost of Attendance" for Athletics
http://northernstar.info/sports/niu-athl...k-comments
Quote:“We have some need financially, and we can’t pass it along to the students, we can’t pass it along to our fan base, but we’re going to have to create some other ways to engage people so they can spend their discretionary dollar, and that’s where our focus is,” Frazier said. “And quite frankly that’s why I was hired. So, I got to put that on my shoulder; you got to give me fourth and 1, and I got to get through that.”
4th and 1 at the goal line? I'll take my chances handing the ball to SF.

Didn't the article say the 800k was earmarked from new licensing earnings?
Glad we are committed to keeping up with the Jones' on this new change. Wonder if any FBS schools will balk?

This is a non-issue. The additional income from the Playoff money was going to be around 1mil. That was agreed by most to be enough to pay the cost of attendance basics for the G5 schools.
On top of that SF has already gotten athletics more money from the new media and food/drink deals.
This is either just some publicity help from SF to the students, reminding them that we are a D1 FBS program OR the NS being a pain about how athletics spends so much money.

What exactly was the "NS being a pain about" in that article? It is a current topic in collegiate athletics and the only person being quoted is Frazier, who was very much in favor of it and very much adamant about NIU holding its own against anyone else. There was no one quoted as questioning the necessity, value, funding, etc, or being opposed to Huskie athletes receiving the additional aid.
This past year, NIU football pre-game as well as post-game coverage --- men's and women's hoops as well -- was moved to the front of the NS. In comparison to some years in the past where there were individuals who questioned NIU's athletic spending, the current NS has been very supportive.
Some of you folks seem to think if a newspaper, TV, radio or other media outlet isn't praising everything about athletics, they're automatically anti. Many of you insisted Chicago TV stations were anti-NIU when they covered stories like the death of a student in a frat house. Can't imagine you've seen the national newscasts talking about the SAEs at Oklahoma, or the fraternity at Penn State with nude photos, or the women's lacrosse team issues at Maryland-Baltimore County. Then again, the Dog Pound would never talk about......say athletes in Ohio being arrested for drinking, rumors about a coach in Michigan, a basketball coach being fired at a university in this state....no, topics like that are of no interest to anyone.

I definitely agree the NS has been much more positive about the money side of NIU athletics. In fact I don't think I have read or heard of a negative article on NIU athletics in the NS since tons of alums (most from this board I would assume) tore apart the writer for the article complaining about NIU athletics spending 9.5mil on the CPC and the Northern Star for having an overall negative view of Athletics.

For some reason I am unable to view the comments but there were relatively many.

It's nice to see local media being objective as opposed to ass kissing like the yokels in Alabama...that's bad work and in-town stupid
