RE: UC Basketball Not Profitable Last Year
I guess I will take solice in knowing that a lot of schools lost money on basketball this past year. I guess netting a zero is better than being in the whole.

Darren Rovell @darrenrovell · 4 hrs4 hours ago 41% of teams in the NCAA Tournament reported they either made no $ or lost $ on their basketball program last season.

Is that for the calendar year 13-14 or 14-15?. I would of thought UC would have made money this year averaging close to $9,400 fans per game.

WooHoo! We cooked the books to only make no money, not lose our shirts. Think about that while in the Yum Center on Thursday.

A UC alum tweeted the following which may explain our $0 on the books:

Señor Alejandro ‏@AlexAmend08 ·27m27 minutes ago
@darrenrovell @Bearcat_T Cincinnati's ticket structure see's a majority of the money as a "gift" to the general athletic fund. Not BBall

Also, apparently Butler only made $1.

No school would ever make a profit.... they are not for profit businesses (gigantic sarcasm).

Yeah, John Oliver did a piece about the sham that is college athletics last night. It covers the "profits" of college programs. Either programs are rolling in money and doing their best to spend it so as to remain a non-profit (while seeking every way possible to make as much money as possible) or they are doing their best to keep up in the arms race that is college athletics while coaches, administrators and construction companies get mega rich.

It's not just the athletic programs. It's the entire universities.

Really the problem extends to most non profits. If the CEO of a non profit is making a million dollar salary then the organization is absolutely for profit. There is zero common sense applied to the situation, instead changing an account name from Retained Earnings to Net Assets means that a company has no tax liability. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for people not paying taxes but the current system could only be thought up by politicians anyway.....................

$9,400 fans? Wow even when I had center seats I did not pay $9,400 per game.

RE: UC Basketball Not Profitable Last Year
College athletic department profits/losses are completely dependent on how the university decides to do the accounting. Reports like this are meaningless unless you actually look at the books.

WVU is said to have lost 2.2 million and Notre Dame 2 million, the most of this year's tournament teams.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketba...urn-profit

Who knows how it's all accounted, which is what really matters.

Interesting. How much money did UC make in the Big East or CSUA days for comparison sake?
