RE: Nuetral Site options
I've said it before (although it was easier to say with Memphis in the C-USA tourney picture).

Until Memphis left, it'd have been easy - El Paso , Rotating City (1), Memphis, Rotating city (2)

now? Rotate it among 3 geographic locations.

1) West Hosting city - El Paso/Dallas/Houston/etc.
2) Central Hosting City - Biloxi/Nashville/Birmingham/etc.
3) East Hosting City - Norfolk/Greenville/Boca/etc.

Note that you could try to squeeze in a "larger tourist city" if they bid on it (Orlando, NO, Atlanta, etc.). And doing so would push the other ones back one season.

Quote:Another Neutral site option should be the De Soto Center in Southhaven, MS

NO offense, but have you ever been through Southaven? There's absolutely nothing there whatsoever other than going to Memphis...

And finally, you have to keep the Men's / Women's tourney in the same city (IMO)... A fan of one men's team might grow into a fan of some other women's team.

Can someone answer this, why is the commish insistent on such a big arena?

To me an arena of 10K or less is much more accommodating and intimate

In prior years, when UAB did not host and finished as one of the top 4 seeds, you cannot tell me that you wouldn't of rather had this type format?

The WAC tourneys in Vegas was the best - outside of the travel the overall convenience of everything was unbeatable

I would love for CUSA to explore a neutral site that offers something close to those amenities (I know Vegas is hospitality central and tough to match)...

RE: Nuetral Site options
Let's look at the fans who attended -

Handful from FIU, TUSA and Rice

Double handful from Marshall, Charlotte, UTEP, and UNT

Decent showing from Tech and ODU - 200 to 300 each

Good showing from WKU and MTSU - maybe 500 each

Folks are not exactly beating the doors down to go

you talk about how good of a showing it was in birmingham. but if UAB lost to WKU or La Tech would the championship game been well attended? I doubt it.

It needs to be in a destination place. Personally, I had no desire to spend vacation days going to Birmingham, AL (no offense!). Or it needs to be at a school in/around a large city with things to do other than watch basketball. That would make it a bit easier to justify spending the vacation time.

The Men and Women's tournaments used to be in two different cities. It didn't work. It won't happen again.

Yeah, there used to be as much complaining about them being split as there is now about them being in the same location. I suspect the women's teams like them together, as it means more support, bands and cheer staff at their games.

I very have posted this several times, but it is not just about seating. If CUSA is going to remain something more than a bottom tier conference, they need an arena that can handle logistics involving, media, TV, multiple locker rooms, etc.

The tourney should be in either Nashville, San Antonio, or Charlotte

If it's a destination location you want then why not Miami so you can vacation and watch the tournament?

Everyone clambering for a neutral site location better take a damn good look at your attendance and how many of them will actually fork out the money for a destination location. Food for thought.

Key west has an arena at the Community College on Boca Chica. I'm in! Boom drops mike and walks off stage to smoke a tree.

MBB - Allen Event Center (Allen, TX: 6-7k capacity)
WBB - Dr Pepper Arena (Frisco, TX: 6k capacity)

Both venues are 11.4 miles from each other.

Big airports (DFW or Love Field), tons of hotel, shopping, many CUSA schools have a sizable alumni base in DFW area, large media market.

Dr pepper arena + the new Cowboys practice facilty in Frisco that will seat 12k for football with a giant retail area surrounding it. It could be converted to BBall arena.

That would be such a cool area to have it....

If we could get the TSSAA to move the boys state tourney to this week, instead of last week, we could host both men & women. The women could play in memorial and the men in Murphy, championship games on Sat. at 3 and 7pm. in Murphy. If you want Nashville, this would work, only 30 mins. away, great time for all!!!!!!!!!

With ODU, Charlotte, and Marshall all fairly nearby, I think it would be a good location for the next 4 years.

For those that are familiar, is it a good venue? Easy to fly into Greensboro? Thats a basketball crazy area, do you think it would be pretty good attendance?

Greensboro is strangled on airfare because it is competing against RDU and CLT. Greensboro works for the ACC because ACC HQ are there, and it is drivable for MOST of the league. Best air option to Greensboro is fly to Charlotte-Douglas then drive.

That's even worse logistically than Greensboro. You'd probably be best off flying into Greenville-Spartanburg and driving if doing that one. You'd do better at Greenville first. Also, Asheville is typically used (along with Greenville) for the SoCon ... so availability isn't guaranteed.

You'll have to schedule around the ACC in Charlotte, as the ACC does rotate in to Charlotte and given that the ACC football championship game is there the locals running the college sports events there (forget the name of the foundation) will give the nod to the ACC.

That's an interesting thought that had not occurred to me. I like that idea if they can scrub the ugly orange for a few days. Don't tell them I said that.

Unless you have family, there is nothing worth visiting in Knoxville. I have an uncle there and it is nothing great. Chattanooga is much nicer and has a little more to do.

Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg is only 30 minutes way. Chattanooga wouldn't be bad either.

ACC moves to DC next year and NYC for the 3 years after that. Charlotte would not be bad either but would be a lot farther for MTSU and WKU.
