No reason to believe that Memphis and Uconn will not rebound and be back to their winning ways next year. Tulsa is building a great program and SMU and Cincy are in good shape for the next few years. The sky is not falling. I do consulting and in business you look at institutions that have histories of success. One down year is not the time to sell these schools, but to watch as their management does what it has always done, found ways to make good things happen.

Programs in the AAC were chosen for their potential and ability to win on a regular basis. THis has not changed with the two bids this year. If I was investing, I would put more money down on our basketball schools as only fools would be selling. With our current tv contract and institutional leadership we are going to be just fine going forward.

Reading through these posts and seeing everyone being so optimistic, yet 1 year later for the most part with the exception of Houston nothing has really changed.

Houston’s plan seems to be gaining some traction which I’m very happy to see.

UConn is back as expected, maybe not to the level some of its fans would like but definitely back to being a player on the national scene.

The top half of the conference remains pretty solid (UC, SMU, Tulsa and Temple).

Memphis has slid back a bit and is at a coaching crossroad.

The bottom group of USF, ECU, UCF and Tulane really hasn’t changed at all, although I would say UCF has strengthen its roster.

Is the AAC any better this season than it was last?

From a bottom standpoint, the AAC just brought in two good ADs at UCF and Tulane - who have already made great fb coaching hires. That was a start. Those ADs will put their stamp on basketball too.

I don't think anyone foresaw SMU's probation. Our top could have been more productive OOC, but seems to be maturing as the year goes on.

At this point, it's all about pulling the trigger on holdover staffs from former conference homes at ECU, Memphis, Tulane, and UCF.

Just like football, you have to turn the soil.

From a talent standpoint, we're doing that, and I think we've seen the play in this league mature with the season.

On paper. To early to make that call.

Baby steps..

getting 3 teams into the tournament this year would be huge, but I think the only way that happens is if UC/Uconn finish the season strong and someone besides them wins the tourney in Orlando.

These chances would be better if they both are on the same side of the bracket, and knock one off before the title game.

My odds?

1 team in: 10% chance
2 teams in: 65% chance
3 teams in: 20% chance
4 teams in: 5% chance

Having a handful of teams do nothing in non conference doesn't help either.

Let's all be honest here. A few years ago the mantra around here was that in hoops the AAC will be a player nationally and most of us said we would get four to five teams a year in the ncaa regularly (UC, UCONN, Memphis, Temple, Tulsa) and so far it hasn't even been close. Not only are we not getting teams in the big dance like we thought we would, but we don't even have teams ranked like we thought we would.

UC is addressing their issues with a revamped arena that can invigorate some excitement again into Bearcat basketball but speaking for UC, I thought we would be better now. I'm sure many of you think the same right now about your school too.

Very disappointing.

Yeah honestly I agree with you. I thought (UC, UCONN, Memphis, Temple, Tulsa) would carve this league up to be honest and they have done everything but that to be honest. It is almost like they have all regressed to some extent. I think SMU has proven that isn't directly related to the league as they are thriving. If SMU can sustain its success that adds a 6th team to the core group and Sampson appears to have a SMU like rise occurring in Houston with a new arena renovation on that way that will also help invigorate the program. That would be a 7th. 7 out of 11 is a start but the league needs to be better overall from top to bottom. Don't think anyone is really disputing that. I do think it is a work in progress and will improve just like we saw football improve this past season.

Those 10 are distributed over 5 schools in the conference.

Cincy- #98, #114 (3)
Uconn- #26, #60 (2)
Memphis- #27, #56 (3)
SMU- #68 #127 (3)
Temple- #106, #121 (3)

Cincy, Memphis, SMU, and Temple also bring in another *** star player each in their classes.

All these classes are very good classes.

Now the rest
UCF- Very solid class 4 *** star players with multiple P5 offers (very solid class) (4)
USF- 3 *** star players, one not evaluated (4)
ECU- 2 non rated recruits (2)
Houston- 2 *** star recruits, one not evaluated (3)
Tulane- 2 *** star recruits, one not evaluated (3)
Tulsa- 2 *** star recruits (2)

(all ratings according to rivals to keep it simple)

Discuss...

The OP shows Tulsa with two *** recruits. To update this Tulsa now has four *** recruits and 2 unrated recruits in the 2016 committed class. According to Rivals.

That post is from march of last year. (in the meantime we added the SG Brown to the 2015 class)

All of our recruits for 2016 are (or were) 3 stars coming out of HS, except the 6'10 Aussie.

I wouldn't get too condescending as a Tulsa fan. You beat a bad Oklahoma State team and an OK Wichita State team who isn't the same as they were last year. You scheduled
Central Arkansas
Little Rock
lost to Oral Roberts?!
Missouri St
Northern Arizona
Lost to average Oregon state

You don't really have the OOC schedule or wins to be talking down to other programs

I believe we have a top 75 SOS. UALR has something like 3 losses on the season. ORU is a crosstown rivalry. Haven't kept track of Indiana St. or Ohio, but we played them as well. Also the majority of our losses were by 5 pts or fewer. We didn't ever get blown up this season. (Until a bad loss to Houston)
