RE: Baseball rankings review - March 16
I realize that the computer rankings need more data in order to present an accurate picture of the relative strengths of teams, but, IMHO, there is more than enough information on Dallas Baptist to earn a place in the Top 25. They are 15-2 and Boyd's has them #1 in RPI and #2 in ISR. Their SOS is significantly higher than that of Texas A&M's, and they only have 2 losses.

The newbies at Perfect Game jumped us 2 spots all the way up to #22. Wow. UH at 13-7 with a much lower RPI and SOS is still ahead of us, as is FAU, UT, UCF (stayed at #15 after a 3-2 week), Tx Tech (actually climbed 4 spots to #14, despite having yet to face a team with a pulse), and the list goes on and on...

Texas Tech just won 2 of 3 @ San Diego State, a team ranked #44 by both Warren Nolan and Boyd's.

Will you stop looking at RPI until we're 50% through with the schedule. It's absolutely meaningless at this point. Harvard was in the Top 10 until just the other day.

Love seeing the record of 14-4-1 for Illinois.

I'm assuming the tie was weather related?

This is the most perfect illustration of pot>kettle>black you are ever likely to see on a discussion board.

All I can say about the d1 Baseball rankings page is that ASU has some seriously ugly uniforms. (Unless you were a fan of the Astros in the 80s.)

Nope. "Travel curfew on a getaway day." Odd that they started so late (3:05 p.m.) when they knew they had a 5:45 p.m. curfew.

Guess Texas Tech's effort to become a Tier 1 University includes getting unbelievable love in the college baseball polls. Either that or Coach Tim Tadlock has some compromising pictures on the staff at D1 and elsewhere.

Baseball America has the Patriots at #18.

I wonder what their RPI/SoS would have been if their 4-game home series with UMass-Lowell hadn't been cancelled. They did beat Baylor twice ... and have home-and-home midweeks with TCU in April.

They weren't half as bad as the Vandy all black pinstripe uniforms. They looked like a softball team gone way wrong.

In fairness, Walt makes a really good point (and I should note that I was all set to offer a vigorous defense of Walt, at which point I realized that the word did not mean what I thought it meant).

I have a tiny bit of inside info on the Tech team as one of my colleagues and close friends has a son ( who was recruited by Rice) who is a freshman pitcher for the Red Raiders. I think they were excited after last years CWS appearance. And they have some good returning starters and had a very good recruiting class. But even they know that they've played a cream puff home baked early season schedule. They came back to earth quickly recently after they went out to California and were treated rather roughly by Fullerton. Still, they've got some decent talent and I think they will be a force in the Big XII race.
