The Benjamin Button Conference
Playing in a one at large bid conference. And coming in 3rd place. Discuss.

Woah, I just realized that the AAC sucks. Why didn't anyone tell me by mentioning it every other post?

No worries. UConn and Memphis were seriously down this year. If they have typical seasons, this is a four bid conference.

Temple and Tulsa were close, but not good enough this year. UConn was talented enough but didn't take care of business when they needed to. The worst part of this league is that the bottom 5 are really really really really really really really bad.

And yet we managed to lose to 2 of them ECU and TULN...that is the difference in Cincinnati getting a 6-7 seed.

I don't worry about bball. Any conference with UCONN, UC, Memphis, and Temple is going to be okay. Tulsa has put together good teams before and SMU is heavily invested in basketball. I hope were not together long but Im certain this will be the only year where one of those historically strong programs makes the dance.

UC was the top 8 seed. Win both those games and they are a 5 seed. That's life though. young team that didn't show up enough.

The AAC only got one more bid than the Atlantic Sun conference... let that sink in.

That's the conference NKU plays in.... let that sink in.

NKU is barely even a Division I school.... let that sink in.

UC is just barely better than NKU.... let that sink in.

This is sarcasm.

Exactly. I do not see that last part of your comment changing anytime soon, however.

The Benjamin Button Conference
Can someone explain why the watered down Big East gets treated like a power conference with 60% of the conference making the tournament?

RE: The Benjamin Button Conference
PAC-12 had a year when their champion missed the tournament and they received only two bids. The American still had three NIT teams and two NCAA tournament teams in a down year. Once again this was the 8th best conference and was pretty much treated as such today. The American, Mountain West, A-10, WCC, and Missouri Valley were roughly in the same ballpark this season. Last year the American was up and the Big East was down a bit.

This league was probably a few games away from four NCAA tournaments bids in a down year. UC made it to the tournament for the 5th year in row while defending champion UConn is in the NIT. Memphis, Michigan, and Florida didn't even make the NIT. Forget what conference UC is in and focus on the Bearcats.

Because the Committee is made up of administrators and not basketball people. That would be why they use lame explanations like "passes the eye test."

Which begs the question if they aren't basketball people how do they give the eye test?

More importantly Rath is why have we never had a Mick "we will be in the final four" statement? Why has Mick never publicly stated goals for this program?
Deflection is always fun.

They are just parroting a line.
If they were really knowledgeable about D1 college basketball they would be able to list criteria used and state clearly how a particular team did or didn't measure up to that criteria and not just say "passes the eye test as the reason for letting a team in."

The committee chair said they let UCLA in "because they were coming on late in the season." Coming on? That is their criteria.

Georgetown got a 4 because they passed the eye test. WTH?
