Not as long as our current AD is at the school. Lutz did well for a while but lost his mojo when we left CUSA 1.0 and went A10. His heart wasn't in it, especially after he didn't get the UT job. We didn't make the tourny his last 5 years or so. I like Lutz, he's our all time winningest coach, and I hope that one day he's associated with the school again, but not as coach. That ship has sailed. Hopefully this time we find a good replacement.

Per Jeff Borzello on Twitter

"Chattanooga head coach Will Wade has been in talks with Charlotte and could meet later this week, per sources. Previously assistant at VCU."

Great coach, IMO. Kicked our butts early in the year.

I hope it's not some two year wonder winning with someone else's recruits unless they have name recognition (aka Hurley). I hope it's someone with at least 5 years of successful head coaching experience at one school.

I hope it's not some assistant coach with no head coaching experience.

They better litter the contract with morality clauses and ultimatums, but a good fit for Charlotte if they can keep him sober.

Agreed. Charlotte would get a proven coach for a great price.

Not trying to be funny. The man is a good coach and program builder. In was his personal problems that sank him. I probably wouldn't roll the dice on him if I was Charlotte either, but eventually someone might and it could be either a very good or very bad decision.

do you guys have a time table (like by the FF or something)? I remember we hired a consulting firm to assist us doing the search. we ultimately hired the first name that popped up (Jeff Jones) when the season ended.

The basketball program is too big/valuable to let Blaine take another bite of the apple. In two years, went from 8th seed to 2 wins. The drop is quick and not fun to watch. When sober a very good coach.

Agree for Charlotte, but it may be worth the shot if I am the AD somewhere like Longwood or Liberty.

We can ill afford another bad decision. This could be the "Faded Rose of Charlotte's" last major hire. If she gets it wrong her legacy will be the start of one program and the destruction of another.

And now there is this:

Quote:Jeff Goodman ‏@GoodmanESPN
Charlotte will lose Mike Thorne to transfer -- and sources told ESPN that Willie Clayton is also likely gone. Thorne can play right away.

No surprises there. Wish both would stay but I completely understand.

to misquote ?Casey Stengel?, "we lost 18 games with those guys here."

On a serious note, they both seem to get great kids (Thorne is graduating) and I wish them the best. I do with they would wait and see who the new coach is before leaving.

No, he had his chance here. He wasn't the same after missing out on the UT gig, see the results.

Steve Prohm of Murry State would be a good choice

I would love to get him but I fear he is going to a Cartel 5 school like Alabama. Probably wouldn't hurt to inquire. I am hearing Wade, Moton and Watkins at this point but I am not as well connected as some others.
