Every now and then they have to "fire the coach" to try to show the conference they are serious about basketball. But they're not. They cash the check, thats it.

Pastner could bring them up to average grade and they would be thrilled with 18-14 seasons, a NIT bid every couple of years, and a tourney game every 5 years. He would run a clean program and graduate everyone in 3 years.

Exactly. Perfect fit. Let's make it happen, for the good of Depaul basketball.

I see where Alabama just fired Anthony Grant. Another opportunity for Pastner. A plus for Memphis--we'd get to see how Pearl v. Pastner would actually play out.

He did a good/great job at Clemson.

"cough" Rick Barnes did a great job a Clemson. Oliver Purnell played a crappy out-of-conference schedule and still didn't do well.

chess - DePaul *definitely* has money for the athletic department, but I'd agree that the school has a fool as AD. That is what has me concerned - the new coach is going to be the one shepherding in the new arena and a rare opportunity to reset the program completely with a clean slate, so it HAS to be the right hire.

I figured Purnell had pics of his boss in compromising situations to still have a job.
