Numbers crunching regards to NIT
They say it's a weak NCAA bubble this year.

But, WOW, it is a strong NIT bubble.

RE: Numbers crunching regards to NIT
Last year, SMU made it to the NIT Final Four at MSG and Coach Brown and multiple players noted back in the fall how that experience would help them improve this year.

There are plentyy of other programs that made deep NIT runs that helped them get NCAA bids the next year.

If you ever get a shot to make it to MSG in March, you take it.

RE: Numbers crunching regards to NIT
I hope Memphis gets an NIT bid. Don't know how likely that is, given the record and few quality wins. My way of thinking is that the more you play, the better you get. If the bid comes, I'm not sure I'd risk Nichols getting banged up (although I don't see know they win without him). And I'd probably start Crawford and give Woodson a lot of playing time. Pastner, I think, needs to send a signal to those who will be returning that he's going to build around them. Does that include Pookie? Johnson seems a step slow on offense and often out of position on defense. I'm not sure Pookie is an upgrade.

SMU should have been in the big dance last year. They had a good team.

They had the talent and the coaching to make a run in the NIT.

We're in a different situation entirely.

At first glance, yes SMU should've been in, but when you looked at their resume last year they had no business being in

They were at worst on the NCAA bubble. Many 'experts' had them in.

The hope is that we get an NIT bid then make a run to the final 4 of that tournament.

1-12 against the Top 50. As I'm sure you are aware the NCAA does not take teams 1-68 with the NIT picking up with team 69. There will likely be a couple of top 40 teams in the NIT.

The CA says that according to projections, we aren't likely to receive an NIT bid, unless they take into account how tough our schedule was (33rd toughest out of 351) and the string of injuries. Since most of our fans don't, I doubt that they will.

RE: Numbers crunching regards to NIT
If they goy the numbers, there is NO WAY this team gets a bid. If they go with the eye test, I think they have a good chance.

Most people on the board don't realize how bad the resume looks. If you throw out the games against the teams outside the top 200(that's right top 200, not top 100......the games that should be automatic wins), this team is 6 - 12. That's right, not even close to .500 against top 200. Plus there are 2 losses outside the top 200.

It's been a really rough year. Next year will be much better.

Iffy whether we get asked to the NIT. Unfortunate...as indeed it is overwhelmingly likely the team has at least two more wins without the injury, and maybe more, without them, which would make them a lock for the NIT.

Yes...sounds funny discussing making the NIT, but that is the hand at this moment, so hope they get a chance for more games.

If there's a shortfall are you writing the check?

Ain't that the truth. Same as all the folks asking us to write the checks for Pastner's buyout..........

I'm sure the irony isn't lost on one such as you.

Agreed.

I know there is an outside chance the NIT invites the TIGERS, but the record was pretty rough once all things are given appropriate consideration. I can't see a NIT bid forthcoming.

If MEMPHIS could not afford the send 6 cheerleaders and the reduced pep band to Hartford, then certainly it can't afford the CIT fee of $50,000.

No NIT means season is completed.
