What a game! My heart almost couldn't take it. So proud of the Bulls for finally making the Big Dance.. Winning the MAC Tourney is so damn hard. Props to CMU...both teams were really good.

Congrats to the Bulls. I had all tournament tickets and sat right in the middle of all the U@B fans. Good group. Respresented the school very well. Good luck in the tourney.

As an aside, I'm glad Xavier Ford won the MVP as he played great the last two days. I also really enjoyed watching Regan. Seemed to hit that clutch three when needed (especially against Akron).

Congrats. Someone said UB is a sleeping giant in hoops. Good chance to take the program to the 'next level.'

I remember the game, many years ago when Reggie Witherspoon and team hosted UNC, before a full house (that was before the remodeling). Awesome support for a losing program.

ESPN Chicago reporter: Hurley to DePaul.

Probably more of an idea than an actual lead, but so it begins.

Sad to see that Buffalo can't even enjoy a full day basking in the glow of its first bid, but as a fan who's experienced two recent coaching changes and suffered their serious consequences, it's just reality.

Hurley makes $300k plus incentives, while DePaul's outgoing coach made $1.8 million. Saddled by costly football programs and mostly crap attendance, MAC hoops is doomed to stepping stone status. That's a real shame because we saw how strong the league can be this year with solid coaching lifting many programs.

RE: We're going dancing
Even if Hurley leaves, Buffalo still has a lot of momentum built up for the program. NIU didn't lose a step after losing their football coaches, if UB hires the right replacement then they'll be able to stay atop the MAC. Make sure to hire a Doeren, not a Treadwell.

I know it's just speculation, but I don't know why he'd want to coach Depaul anyways. I know it's the Big East but that place is a graveyard for coaches, other big programs have to be looking at him as well.

Indeed, DePaul paying 1.8M for their program is ridiculous, but Hurley's salary is ridiculously low (even with incentives).

Time for MAC teams to have contracts with say 100K bonus for NCAA tourney appearance (like we're a one-bid league so it is 100K for ONE school to pay one year; the other 11 teams wouldn't pay it). Maybe 50K bonus for each NCAA tourney win. (200K for making the Sweet 16).

It's easier said than done. Players generally commit to coaches, and when they leave, it throws the whole recruiting process into turmoil. Transfers, de-commits and players who were recruited for the wrong system add up fast. They also reveal themselves a lot faster on a small basketball roster as opposed to a big football roster. The fact that Ohio sucked this year wasn't because Saul Phillips or Jim Christian were bad hires. It was the cumulative effect of plowing through three regimes in four years.

Thank you everyone for the kind words... We may argue and fight during the season sometimes, but this league really does have some of the best and most passionate fans.

Congrats, Buffalo - from a KSU fan that seen more than their fare share of successful coaches bolt for supposed "greener pastures." Guess that's life in a mid-major! Best of luck in the tournament!

We're 100% Buffalo fans this week.

Once the MAC tourney is over we're one big family.

Hell, I'll be cheering on MAC teams in the CIT.

Wow, you're really going back there. That was Reggie's first game ever. 1999, a mid-season replacement. He was still having trouble remembering the players names.

There was some discontent about Reggie's firing, and his replacement with Hurley, but for as much as he couldn't win the big game, Reggie left the program better than he found it, and I hope in his heart, he knows that he owns a piece of this championship.
