Of what the future of collegiate sports is liable to look like in the near future. The P-5 is about to completely seperate itself from the rest. If we don't make the jump, the UAB scenario will become our reality, sooner than you think. And what does that mean for basketball, well once the P-5 completely take care of business on the football side, what happens to the tournament? Remember when the NIT was a big deal, the NCAA will be feeling that pressure.

Basketball as good as its been to us, cannot save us. Football must get better, but that can not save us, getting into a P-5 conference is the only thing that can save us.

So the big buy out for Pastner literally could not come at worse time. It's why it is so sickening that he hasn't worked out.

But we have to husband resources and pray to the deity of your choosing that the big boys can get the big 12 done. We are out of other options.

Spot on. It's happening...

Unfortunate timing for basketball reasons, but it is what it is...

So, if we don't get in the Big XII, we'll be broke and unable to pay a top ten salary for a basketball coach. And if we get in, we'll be broke for a while with money rolling in after a few years, but we'll be playing top notch competition twice a week. Pastner's damned if we do and damned if we don't.

I think college sports is on the verge of a colossal power shift. We had better be on the inside when it happens

Basketball is irrelevant to the calculation. It's like being in a game of monopoly and putting your hotels on Baltic, the rent is going to keep you in the game. I am saying that we can't be throwing Pastner's buy out, a new coaches contract money around right now. If we don't get in, it doesn't matter, because we will quickly become second class citizens in college sports. And the town will become Grizzlies fans.

How could this remotely be true if Pastner is indeed the best coach in Memphis history?¿

I'll let those who testify to his greatness to explain this....

As much as some hate to see that in black and white, it is true. I am one who has full faith in it happening, just as I was the Big East deal. Our athletic department future is working hard, as are some of the important people who are in our community. Those folks made a wise choice in our football coach at a critical juncture. I believe that they will do so again when the time is right.
