It was hard not having the fight song to help cheer for them when they did something good going into a timeout. And no offense to temples cheerleaders and Pom girls but they were not that great (I myself was a cheerleader for 6 years). I don't care what anyone says. Having the band and cheerleaders there has to be a mental boost knowing that someone is vocally cheering for you. I know some of the players acknowledged me and my husband in the crowd which was nice to see that they heard us. The temple fans we were sitting next to also commented on how there were hardly any memphis fans there.. Well I did the best I could trying to cheer for them. It was just all around depressing. But at least I tried to help them. I understand that it may have been a financial decision, but it made us look kind of sad and was kind of embarrassing.

First of all, major kudos for you and your husband for making the trip. That is some hardcore dedication and its awesome. You also have to remember though that Temple is like a train ride (couple maybe) away from Hartford vs Tiger fans having to fly. Mix that with a down year and it was a recipe for an anemic turnout. I'll say again though it was awesome you and your husband went, that's true fanhood!

Who was there to notice?? The Team.
The viewing audience.

One side on the court you saw Temple's band and Cheerleaders. The other side....you saw crickets.
There was ZERO presence for the cameras, and everyone who's ever watched any basketball broadcast knows that the camera loves cheerleaders and bands and mascots.
The Tigers got ZERO representation on a national broadcast.
We may as well go back to CUSA..........if they will have us.

Maybe the band and the cheerleaders are all on double secret probation?

It's 1200 miles from Memphis to Hartford. If we had been the #1 or 2 seed there would probably have still been less than 1000 Tiger fans there. Pom and cheer would probably have been sent since two games were highly likely.

As it turned out I'm glad the money was saved.

So just because we weren't the top seeds it's ok to just say oh well. They can just play in the conference tournament with no large group of vocal support. I think that's really really sad. I think these players deserved to have someone there supporting them since all everyone has done this entire season is talk about how they are not good and fire pastner blah blah. I'm glad that I was there and the other tiger fans were there to show that someone gives a crap about them.

Thank you for saying that. The rest can spin it how they want. But what you said is truth. Our team and our program were not whole without that support.

We went in wounded.

RE: No band or cheerleaders?
If Tom Bowen has managed to impoverish the Tiger Basketball program in the little time he has been here......then he's giving Allen Iverson a run for his lost money.
This was a lack of respect move..............Not a money move.

So you and Bowen had a defeatist attitude going into the game. "Why send them if we are going to be there for one game." If that is the attitude of the leader of our athletic department then we have the wrong leader in charge of our athletic department.

Thanks yall :) and I do understand that it's super far to travel there so I wasn't expecting many Tiger fans there and Temple is quite close so I knew they would have many more fans there, which they did. We just had the opportunity to go so I thought we should. I just really felt bad for our guys.

Something that the actual U of M's administration wouldn't do.

Who knows what our fight song and cheerleaders might have inspired!
We really needed their energy there at the end. That was our team's last chance to make the tourney and we had a chance, so why handicap us from the getgo.

Unlike past CUSA Tourn, all AAC Games are/will be carried by ESPN Networks...so yes, it stands out when one doesn't have their pep band or cheerleaders behind the hoop...just like all the other schools are able to do.

I don't think this is as much Bowen being anti-basketball as much as it being a signal to Josh about his displeasure with the program.
I could be wrong. But that's my gut. I think this is a signal to Josh to look around because he doesn't have the support he is accustomed to.
