Ashley Betz-White will not be back next season
At least it's for a good reason. Good luck to her! I'm sure she will do great.
Agreed...always good to see that it's at least for mature reasons. That being said however, I'm not sure if I find it telling or not that this is yet another example of the lack of retention within WBB program

RE: Ladies play on
The loss of ABW puts more pressure on our incoming freshman PG Carlonia Bernardeco of Portugal. Even though she will have international experience it is a lot of pressure on a freshman.
For a former point guard, KB has had a run of bad luck at this position this year. Highly rated PG Auteaonna Gilmore was released in the summer before the school year started. After GG left that put all the pressure on ABW...who was still dealing with her injury from the previous year...honestly I don't think she was 100%. (she did say that her health was one of the reasons she didn't want to do another year)
Maybe with ABW leaving we can pick up a juco PG or one of those rare transfers who can play right away. (ie-graduated player) But going in with one true PG makes me nervous for next season.

RE: Ladies play on
I don't quite get what Karen's management style is, but I tend to agree that these departures are troublesome. I'll go out on a limb and suggest that had Ashley BW been convinced of the program being steered in a very positive direction where she could see concrete steps being taken (i.e. highly talented recruits/transfers coming in, great learning opportunities under our current coaching staff, increasing fan enthusiasm and attendance at home games, etc,) she likely would have stayed to see what another year would have entailed. Without those elements in sight, she rightfully so didn't think it was worth risking an aggravation of the injury she never felt completely healed from.
Having noted the above, I'm also quietly hoping Ashley's departure offers KB an opportunity she's needed to bring in a great talent that we fans may not have heard about.
Aim High!
