If Levick were still around today it would all be academic. CRH, RJ and host of other folks would be running for the exit. I think now he is comfortable and with the prospect of the basketball practice facility I think he feels like he can build something here.

every coach loves where he is, and loves what the program and university is doing. lol.

you never know what underlying desires/coaching goals he has.

He may love what Ga State is doing, but maybe ever since he played at Miami, he has always wanted a shot to go back and coach. Of course he will never make that public. And that might not be the case, but nobody except for him and his wife knows.

Keep hope alive...LOL

there is nothing wrong with you doing that. lol. I hope Fritz actually loves Statesboro as much as he says he does. haha
I meant SBC fans hoping he leaves

I could give 2 craps if he leaves. It's better for the SBC if he stays and State stays average in CBB. I'd rather Ga Southern learn how to shoot a better percentage from the field, and at that point, we wouldn't have to worry about if your coach stays.

You think too highly of your basketball team. You guys are an above average team at best.

Question for Georgia State fans
I think he would leave if the price was right, but that is the story for every coach in this conference.

I guess Georgia Southern's football team is just average? Or you have to win a 2nd title in a row to achieve average?

and it took you until the last game of the season in a very weak conference to do so this year. Your team is also so good, they lost on the road to a 100+ ranked team that only scored 55 points. Man, you guys are a true powerhouse. lol

we are an above average team. You have to beat good teams to actually be considered a really good team.

we had our shot at beating a top 25 and a top 50 team, and we didn't. We got drubbed by navy. so yes, we are a bit above average.

Ga State beat how many top 50 teams in basketball this year? Zero?
How many top 100 teams? 1?

Yes, you guys are average.

AVERAGE: a number expressing the central or typical value in a set of data, in particular the mode, median, or (most commonly) the mean, which is calculated by dividing the sum of the values in the set by their number.

We are 68 out of 351 in RPI.

Meanwhile... close losses are still losses I believe. We were beating Colorado State at the half and they have a 25 RPI, and a 4 point loss to Old Dominion who has a top 50 RPI. You can't count the high ranked losses one way and not the other.

you lost to multiple teams ranked in the bottom half of the country, and didn't beat anybody in the top 50. all of your wins were against other average to bad teams.

RE: Question for Georgia State fans
Well this thread took an unexpected turn...

(03-13-2015 09:19 AM)Crump1 Wrote:  Can you pay him more $ and is it as easy or easier to get recruits to your campus than it is to get them to Atlanta? Those are the only issues.

I'm not sure if we can pay him more. John Cooper now makes 250K per year, but he was hired under our old AD who sucked and let our basketball program rot for years. Our new AD rose our football coach's salary from 300 to 450 when we replaced Don Treadwell with Chuck Martin, so one would think our new basketball coach would make 50% more (375, which would be second in the MAC), probably more than that even. I'm pretty confident that we could match 425 that GSU pays according to Google.

I don't know what the basketball recruiting situation is like in Atlanta and the south, so I can't compare it to Miami. Ohio and the midwest as a whole are fertile recruiting grounds, but Miami's academic requirements are more strict than at any other MAC school.

If Miami extends a hand to Hunter next spring and he doesn't have any P5 offers on the table, it's going to come down to how close he's become to GSU and how much he cares about Miami. Even if we were a decent mid major program that pays significantly more, the decision would still be made on whether or not Miami matters to him enough to start over again. Personally, if I were a basketball player who had my number retired by my alma mater and had the chance to resurrect my school's program, I'd go for it.

Miami is a special place with several distinct advantages (academics, wealth, history, campus lifestyle) over the rest of the MAC; Martin took a 200K pay cut and said no to better G5 offers just so he could take over a winless program here. Our biggest long term problem is the fact that basketball has to compete with our elite hockey program, the bottom line is that Miami is never going to reach our peak in the 90's and early 00's when we'd make the MAC championship pretty often and average attendance was in the 5000's. If Coop is fired and Hunter is offered the job, I'm inclined to believe that he won't make the move since we graduate almost half our team after next season, but I can dream.

RE: Question for Georgia State fans
I was thinking about going through and trying to figure out exactly where we would land if we were in fact average, but then I realized, that's completely stupid. What makes a team average? Having an average number of points made a game? Having the average number of wins? You could have a team ranked much higher than us with a lower shooting percentage and a team ranked much lower than us with better rebounding. So none of that works. But you know, there's this thing called RPI which takes all of those factors and puts them together and forms a ranking out of them, and we rank at about 70. Out of 300 odd. So finding an average is silly, but comparing yourself to the median is a much better way to look at it. The median is somewhere between 150-200, and yeah. We're in the top 25% of teams. The highest quartile. And not just barely in, we're all inside, so I guess if you call people around the 50% mark average and those in the first quartile above average, we're in the middle of the above average teams. Specifically were in the 20th percentile of all teams.

All of this to say, if you want to say we aren't much more than an average team, statistically you're gonna have a hard time backing that up. We're right at the top 20% of teams.

I'd take 51 RPI. We would be closer to an at-large bid. The lowest rated teams to get at-large bids (ALB): #67 USC, #64 Marquette (2011), #63 NC State (2005), #63 Stanford (2007). Which also... would have helped your RPI out.
