Mike is certainly in the conversation, deservedly so. Let's not let our fond memories get in the way of judgement in throwing Mister into a D1 coaching conversation.

Sander has earned our trust. Looking forward to hearing his decision. I think the fact that he is NOT rooted in ETSU ball is good. Won't see him misty eyed over that ONE win we had 30 years ago and jumping to talk Jennings as a head coach.

Lets look at the "local" favorites
Morrell I am not sure he is ready to be a head coach.
Mister certainly isn't
Pitts....just NO
Radebaugh He has been at Charleston Southern 10 years. Has never won 20 games (has won 19 games 3 times) had 1 500 season and 6 losing seasons and is 139-162 overall. That is in the Big South, I am not that impressed.

Two choices that probably wouldn't be popular because of "Big Orange" ties.
Steve Forbes
Tony Jones

Of those two Forbes would be my choice.

Lets look Nationally.. lets look for the right coach and the right fit, not just look for local ties.

RE: Next ETSU Men's basketball coach
I agree with all of the local ties you mention. They are either not ready or not a good fit. I have listened to Tony Jones over the years on local Knoxville talk shows, and though he made himself open to the public, I just don't trust the guy. Plus he is tight with Pearl and is his assistant at Auburn. Forbes is a viable choice. But I am afraid he makes too much at Wichita St and maybe looking at a major conference school to be head coach at if and when that opportunity comes. He has served his show cause penalty and has it good in Wichita. After the Pearl fiasco, I wasn't high on him, but I think Forbes now may be one of the top assistant coaches out there. I would hope we try to at least talk to him....if he wants to listen.

Whoever it ends up being, it would be nice if Mister could somehow be involved, just not as head coach (right now).

the 31 year old has more Div I experience then Mister, that is the problem.

I disagree. Morrell didn't even play D1 ball. Playing and being recruited is more worthy than setting up a teams hotel arrangements

He has been an assistant COACH (not director of basketball operations) for 2 years at VCU and 1 at Charleston Southern, that is 3 years more then Mister has. Playing Div I basketball 25 years ago is more "worthy" then actually coaching in Div I last couple of years? Okay then, someone has some serious homer goggles on. I don't think Morrell is ready either but he is closer then Mister, sorry you don't want to hear that. I would also bet he will be a Div I head coach before Jennings.

I don't see how the new coach makes Mister an assistant. After the first thing that doesn't go as planned, people will be clamoring for Mister to take the job. That's precisely the reason MuBar never took him on.

Agreed, I said "best case" but should have said pipe dream. I want what is best for ETSU basketball. If having Mister around is going to be a distraction then it is not worth it, let him earn his strips somewhere else, that would actually help him in the long run if he ever did get a chance at the ETSU job. We need someone who can come in and take over the job and build on what we got, we have talent that a turnaround shouldn't take that long. But we don't need to go through a coach learning on the job like it would be if Mister got the job. I see all kinds of people saying he should get the job but not one thing that says he actually qualified for the job. Also think about how awful it would be if Mister did get the job at some point and failed? Lets remember the past fondly and be proud of it but not let it mess up the here and now (and future).

Hiring Mister makes older fans warm and fuzzy. Nothing more.

I wouldn't discount the value of the warm and fuzzies. Also, I think a coaching candidate who is confident in his abilities would not be worried about looking over his shoulder. And if his abilities match his confidence, he should be happy to turn the reins over to Mister in a few years while he moves on as head coach of some big-time program.

He also mentioned the Charleston So head coach, but don't ask me to spell it

Kenny didn't break this story in his own hometown. I knew two days before he did...so please forgive me if I discount his inside information.

Respectfully, I disagree. I want whoever we hire to be looking over his shoulder. Bartow had carte blaunche under Dave Mullins and consequently carried a smug, above-reproach attitude.

My biggest concern with mister is, and it's been mentioned already, is what to do if he isn't successful? Firing him I think would be a little tougher. I think he'd be a success though

List of known coaches of the Nike Villa 7 Consortium of which Dr. Sander is fond of:
1. Steve Forbes - Wichita St Asst
2. Scott Wagers - Jacksonville Asst
3. Ryan Odom - Charlotte Asst
4. Cliff Warren - Maryland Asst
5. Ken Potasnak - East Carolina Asst
6. C. B. McGrath - North Carolina Asst
7. Jeff Capel - Duke Asst
8. Scott Cherry - High Point HC

Not saying the next ETSU coach will be someone from the Nike Villa 7 group but a good possibility. There are definitely others in this group, but these are ones that I know about.

Jeff capel will wait for something bigger. Cliff warren wasnt overly successful at Jacksonville and I think he likes his gig at Maryland

I get it you hate anybody with the local media. You dislike them so much you don't bother to actually read a post that mentions their name you just see it and attack. I said Kenny talked to them, it means he Friggin CALLED them, nothing "inside" about that geez.

Hoopdirt reports on rumors related to coaching changes. They seem to have their finger on the pulse and in the past been fairly accurate. I'll be checking this website daily to what rumors swirl.

Ol' boy reminds of someone... I reckon IP addresses are pretty tough to ban, especially when they're a taxi cab.
That said the Tri-Cities media completely dropped the ball on the Murry story and the stadium. They were all made to look foolish getting scooped twice in a day.

Simple. Hire someone who lacks confidence and make him hire Mister as an assistant.

I still think Morrell is a viable candidate, but I don't think ETSU has the budget to make a favorable offer.
