Freedom Hall
I for one enjoyed the move inside Freedom Hall. It is a better set up than the dome. I am anxious to see what long term announcement is drawn up. However if we do settle in to FH, updates need to happen fast. The seats are horrible but the signs are atrocious. You can't tell what section is what and can barely make out what seat # is assigned to which seat. I do like the new lighting and the new court is really nice.

As an alum, I ultimately yearn for a new arena, small simple layout (6-8000 seats) like our conference counterparts have, but FH will do for now, but some upgrades are needed. What would you like to see?

RE: Freedom Hall
They must get the PA system to work in a way that can be heard throughout the venue. They promised me before the season that this had been addressed, and then I spend the entire year not being able to hear what was going on. That must be first. Other than that, new seats are important, new paint as well as a complete bathroom remodel.

And we have to do something about concessions!

RE: Freedom Hall
I vote for the PA system BIG time. New seats would be nice, but I can survive a year or so without those right now if they fixed the PA system first.

Bathrooms are pretty bad. (They are at Brooks as well and I know for a fact that is being addressed, as well as some premium level seating options.)

Wish list - if funds allowed

Seat improvements
Updated paint
BIG scoreboard with large screens for showing off the crowd. Went to the game at the Citadel and really liked what they did with theirs.
Decoration or LCD boards or something in the area between the lower and upper level. My son said a similar arena he went to for a hockey game had these. Lots of room for advertisements and crowd motivating on those.

Is this rather significant --- city and university working together for Performing Arts Center as well as upgrades to Freedom Hall?

Plans in place for all new seats, sound system and scoreboard. If fans really want more and better, they'll fill the place. That starts with selling out season tckets. Buy now. Same goes for TN game in 2016 - buy all the tix now if you don't want the Orange people to take it over.

RE: Freedom Hall
When funds are available.

JC has a bill moving through the State Legislature that would allow JC to raise the hotel/motel room tax. It is estimated that $500k per year will come from that tax. This tax money has to be spent on projects that will generate tourism dollars. The City has earmarked the money for the FAC, FH and parks.

As Just Buc said above, the fans must start supporting the Bucs with donations and buying tickets. Wishing/complaining for score boards, new seats and sound systems doesn't get the job done. It takes money not words to pay the bills.

I think more people would be willing to help out with freedom hall is things became a little more permanent there. I personally really like freedom hall but going year to year with the lease probably makes people uneasy about investing. That said, I do plan on getting season tickets next year for the first time. Really hope the sound system and seating can get an upgrade if the hotel tax goes through.

I will buy my season tickets simply in support of the direction that the athletic department is taking. Whether I attend most of the games depends on the sound system. If I can't hear anything, Id rather stay home and watch it in my living room listening to Jay.

We need to remember leaving the Dome was not optional. Freedom Hall was OK this year. Hopefully it will get significantly better next season.

RE: Freedom Hall
FH won't be a year to year deal. A contract for at least 5 years with options for additional years is in the works.

There is no plan or way for the university to build a basketball arena in the near future, 8-10 years at least. They have tried to raise 10 million for two years for the FAC and only $900,000 has been given by the every day 'Joe's'. Several of the 'blue hairs', that some on this board disparage, and local companies, have given approx. 6 million and probably along with JC will make up the additional 4 million needed to get the 40 million of state money. The university is hoping that JC will pledge additional monies to increase the FAC seating from 750 to 1200. The bigger the main auditorium, the better entertainment you attract. Better entertainment, the more money for the university and more tax dollars to JC/Washington County

Currently the campaign for the football stadium needs to raise an additional 10 million to be able to finish the second phase of the stadium. That would be seating for only 10,000. To move up to a better conference you must have a stadium of 16,000-20,000 which means raising more money.

There is also a track facility planned to be built in the next 2-3 years, approx. 4 million.

Anyone care to guess how long it would take to raise 65-70 million for a basketball arena?

A tidbit to ponder.....a good ( not top of the line ) overhead scoreboard and sound system would cost approx. 750,000 - 1,000,000.

Did anyone ever say exactly why the old scoreboard wouldn't work in Freedom Hall?

That is a good question. I would guess that it is so out of date that they do not even lower it to try and use it. Also it is not located over the center of the court and over to one side. Does someone know why this is?

Probably something to do with the lighting rig for concerts.

Yes that sounds reasonable.

The biggest problem about the scoreboard at FH, it's not clear whether or not FH in its present state could support the weight of the scoreboard. They are studying that issue. There really hasn't been any work done to FH since it was constructed. There are issues that have to be addressed before certain changes can be made.

Is there still a scoreboard in the Dome? Seems I remember a new one was installed there not long ago?

I don't have a big problem with the scoreboard that is along the sideline other than the fact that definition of letters is not sharp as it should be and light yellows and green (as I remember) are being used for some of the lettering and don't show up clearly enough. Issues which I would think could be fixed with some tinkering.

The sound system annoys me, but I really miss a big, visible scoreboard with player stats.
