RE: Rice vs UNT Gamethread
I would be shocked if Rhoades left after 1 season for any offer. His entire schtick is about program-building and team-building and he would undermine that by leaving after 1 season. Hasn't he said that he had other head coaching offers before Rice, but that he was very picky about the next place he went and chose Rice for a number of reasons (including that he wanted to be at a place with true student athletes)?

I'm all for paying him more money and extending him to keep him at Rice. But it would surprise me if he even considered leaving. Fun speculation though, glad we are all so excited about a coach!

It's certainly the best I've ever seen. I matriculated in 1984, but didn't watch much basketball until a couple of years later.

Again, stop trying to make something out of nothing. Braun has been a big supporter of Rhoades and the team from the get-go, and has attended a great many practices (as he still lives in Houston). There is absolutely no animosity or tension between the two, and I know Dr. K has been very complimentary of Braun, as well (both publically and to Rice supporters in private conversations).

Relax, I'm not trying to invent any animosity, but it's impossible to avoid the awkwardness in that question. It's essentially how did you do better than me?

That is the same position that most talking heads have been in for years and years. It's generally the reason that they're a talking head rather than still coaching.

I agree with your assessment of the on-screen talent at ASN. As for the prediction, I'm pretty sure those predictions are based on pre-game interviews with the head coaches, including such questions as "what's your game plan for tonight?". My dad - a newspaper editor - occasionally covered football games at AFA, Wyoming and CSU, and I remember eating breakfast in Laramie at one table while my dad sat down with the Wyoming HC at another, and then listening to him transcribe the interview at the hotel later in the day (I think after the game).

The broadcast duos and the pre-game and halftime pair all play it straight. They aren't like most of the Fox or ESPN announcers in that they try to be as big as the game. Usually when you have folks that aren't in that "I am a star"mode they are not as good technically. Not the case with these guys.
