Aresco: Done paying attention to realignment, forecasts stability for 5 to 10 ye
“That was some guy on a talk show who invented that,” Aresco said. “I could be wrong, I am no prophet, but I think things could be stable [in the AAC] for next five or 10 years. The wild card right now is what the Big-12 plans to doing [about expansion]."

...

“But I don’t pay attention to those things anymore."

The Big 12 is not expanding. The next expansion, if it ever happens, will be the Big 10 going to 16 with UConn and Kansas.

Translation: Stability, unless the Big 12 acts, but if they call, I can't keep anyone from bolting, so why worry about it. And if that happens, I have plenty of suitors that would join the AAC from C-USA, MAC, etc.

Um....no...that's not what he said (unless you can hear "stability for the next 5-10 years" as imminent expansion.

I agree with the commish. Nothing happening any time soon. Definitely not in next 2 years. 5 to 10 is likely a good guess. Only hope for AAC schools is a decent $$$ bump in next TV deal.

If the B1G wanted that, they would've added those two when they added Rutgers and Maryland. They are targeting Texas and one of the Carolina schools. Until one of them decide to jump, the conference won't likely expand at all because 14 is already a huge conference roster.

Why on earth would the B1G want UConn when they already have Rutgers? 07-coffee3

I wasn't being serious. But now that you asked ...

1) UConn has basketball (male and female versions). Rutgers does not.
2) UConn adds 10% of the NYC market, which adds to Rutgers' 35% of that market.
3) UConn also has its own top 25 market with (Hartford/New Haven/Springfield).
4) UConn has: a) top level hockey, b) elite soccer, and c) a quality baseball program. I understand the Big 10 is starting to emphasize hockey.
5) In academics, UConn is the #16 public FBS school.
6) In academics, UConn would fit in well per U.S. News:

#13 Northwestern
#29 Michigan
#42 Illinois
#47 Wisconsin
#48 Penn State
#54 Ohio State
#58 UCONN *********
#62 Purdue, Maryland (tie)
#70 Rutgers
#71 Iowa, Minnesota (tie)
#76 Indiana
#85 Michigan State
#99 Nebraska

5 - 10 year stability would be consistent with past cycles with realignment happening just ahead of contract renegotiations.

Yeah, I don't see any realignment for a while. That won't stop this board from trying to read the tea leaves and jumping to conclusions.

yeah I think I agree. I think also we'll wake up some morning and get blindsided like we did the Pitt/Syracuse move and then within weeks, all hell will have broken out.

Connecticut and Cincinnati will both be the next to leave the American. I predict Cincinnati and BYU are added to the B12 and soon. 07-coffee3

He's right on both counts.

Nobody from the AAC is going anywhere.

The Big 12 is another matter one way or the other.

Well it sure doesn't sound like the American is anywhere near adding BYU, Army or Air Force, much less VCU or Wichita St.

If I were the B1G - the 2 I would grab are Kansas and Missouri - who add more together than individually w/their rivalry.

It would make an interesting situation for Mizzou - for KU it'd be a no-brainer.

If the B12 doesn't get the waiver, then they add two teams.

If that doesn't happen, then the AAC will be a solid conference.

FIFY 03-wink

I think the Big 12 needs to be collapsing or back to 12 or above before B1G would take another.
