legacy arena ?
OK UAB fans can one of you tell me what side of the court/stands is the team benches? Called the UAB ticket office and they couldn't tell me also couldn't tell me which section was behind the Western bench. They said the ticket office at the arena would know tomorrow but that makes buying a ticket on line kind of hard to do. So if any of you been to a game in this arena is the benches on the side with section 25-24 or 8-9?

I don't know why it couldn't be set up with reserved sections instead of seats. I know it would have made things a lot simpler because no matter where your team was located that section would still be the same price but all seats in that section would be reserved GA (first come seats)

Other words sections 22,23,26,27, 6,7,10,11 would still cost $35 but that ticket gets you a seat in any of those sections...that's open

RE: legacy arena ?
From my experience at the arena for the high school tournament, sections 26L & 23L are behind the team benches.

RE: legacy arena ?
OK thanks we might just go ahead and pop for the $50 tickets at mid-court but still like to be on the same side as our fans. A arena might set up different for different events but it should be the same for basketball...HS or college. The wiring needed would be on the one side.

With Western, Marshall, UNT and Rice in this session I don't think getting just about any seat will be hard. If 2500 shows up I will be shocked!

higher seed should always sit at the same bench. I'm trying to find out what side of the scorer's table that will be... I'll post here when I know.

If you were to ask someone from Birmingham where legacy arena is they'd look at you like you were crazy.

protip: it is known to locals as the BJCC.

RE: legacy arena ?
I'v never seen a tourney ran like this....

NO ONE and I mean no on knows the sections behind the home or visitors bench. Not the ticket office at the arena and not UAB.
We get here go to the ticket office ask for 2 tickets in the Western section, behind the team bench. I've never been to a tourney that didn't set aside 1 to 2 sections behind the teams bench for those fans....

NOT THIS ONE. The ladies at the ticket office couldn't even tell me which side of the arena the benches were on. I explained I like most fans wanted to sit with other Western fans. She said we have fans (not Western's but FANS) sitting in all sections buy your ticket IT'S HIT OR MISS ON IF OTHER FANS WILL BE IN THAT SECTION.

So I can the UAB ticket office and first talked to a girl working there...she didn't know any more than the other ladies and no one in that office knew. I finally talked to someone in the UAB AD office and still no one knew which sections were the home or visiting teams benches. I did find out that the benches were on the 8 & 9 side of the court...well he believes they are.

So we bought mid court tickets in section 9 and since there probably wont be 2500 people there hopefully there wont be any yellow shirt Nazis enforcing seating. After speaking with the asst AD he agreed it would have been a lot easier on fans if there were reserved sections instead of seats.

RE: legacy arena ?
Why can't they just make the entire tournament GA? There are simply not enough fans to warrant assigned seats.

Plus, GA seating would allow for more fans closer to the court which makes for better TV optics.

And may I be the "fly in the ointment" and comment, it would appear having the tournament in Birmingham has been a total failure so far. I'm of course going to reserve judgement until later games, but we'd be lucky if there were 300 people there. I personally would like to see this conference move ahead. All indications are that Virginia Beach is going to build a 16,500 seat arena. Perhaps, with ODU's proven fan support this might be a future venue for CUSA, just sayin'.

Every school should have an opportunity to host the tournament and have fans of other schools trash them as failures at running something doomed to be a failure in the first place.

We have been in this conference for many years. I have NEVER seen big crowds for the first day of the tournament (whether it was at Memphis, Tulsa, UTEP, etc), especially when the host school was not playing in one of those games. You're fooling yourself if you think ODU fans are going to fill up a 17,000-seat arena at noon on a Wednesday when neither of those teams are ODU.

As long as ODU has proven fan support for other teams, then sure (since that seems to be a big criticism of UAB right now).

It's no one's arena. It's primarily used for high school basketball tournaments. But the BJCC itself is used for concerts and such.

The CC in BJCC stands for civic center. It is not anyone's arena. They host concerts, tractor pulls and monster truck jams and the occasional Disney on Ice.

It's a multipurpose venue. Has been used now or in the past for: hockey, arena football, circus, etc.

It has also served in the past as site for numerous college basketball tournaments/events including the CUSA tournament (1999), the Arbys Hardwood Classic, and multiple times as site for the NCAA tournament.

I just wish someone would tell me why it matters.....looks like a pretty nice facility on the tube...it's easily better than the yurt and shows up well 'on screen'.

what else can one expect? especially with 'butts' in rd 1......if you watched it the last two years, one would understand the comparison of 'insignificance' relative to 'matter'

RE: legacy arena ?
Honestly this arena is way too large for CUSA it would take the season averages of 80% of the conference to fill it up. Add to that ticket prices will limit local involvement to next to nothing. Add in the $8 parking and $10 student tickets (should be FREE) and UAB has just about priced their self out of any fans on the fence. Especially today with all games or just about all of them on TV. Think about it it could cost a family of 3 $150 to see one session if they bought a coke or other snacks...

$280 for myself and son just on tickets if Western makes it to the championship game. Add in $32 parking and 4 nights in a hotel and another $60 in gas. and I'm pushing a $1,000 for 2 people to see 4 games...well 7 games in 4 sessions.

As far as attendance you could have 7 or 8 k in this place and it look empty ...if they are spread out. I would like to see it go to a on campus arena. But to me there is no excuse for the ticket office not to know where the benches are...and especially not UAB. This will probably get taken care of for day 2. But this tourney really needs a destination location where people can justify spending between 1 and 2k
