Did UIC fire Howard Moore. If yes he has 3 years remaining on his contract at about $350,000 per. Thats a big chunck for a mid major to swallow

Would not be surprised if they had someone already in mind to replace him. Deon Thomas perhaps?

If I were them, I'd take a look at Dave Leitao. Had DePaul getting real good recruits and playing real well before he went to Virginia.

Jerrance Howard too. Although him getting caught with weed might cost him looks this year.

That might help him land some recruits though

you can bet Tracy Dildy will be campaigning for the job who will try to sell the stale argument of recruiting the city. I would Div 1aa or II and get a fundementally sound coach who can get just good basketball players. My question is why isn't Ball St a power in the MAC, they have a nice campus and a very nice arena.

RE: UIC Basketball
If Dildy had even managed to get Chicago State over .500 he might have a case to go to UIC. But now?

Deon Thomas was an assistant to Moore- so you know he's not an option.

Leitao has done the career rebuilding move of going back to the assistant ranks- so maybe he's got a Ray McCallum type second act in him.

I could see going for Howard. Figure it's bound to be someone with that usual UIC profile- midwest major assistant, preferably with ties to Chicago/Illinois, and bonus for direct ties to Champaign. Not that that's ever got them anywhere.

The bigger issue with Howard is that he didn't tell Self about his weed arrest and guilty plea and was suspended from Kansas' bench. Bradley was about to hire him when that surfaced in Peoria and Lawrence.

When are we getting in the tournament? Can't stand the embarrassment oiur once proud program has become. I understand Montgomery has gotten them to respectable, but how much longer? He took over a TERRIBLE situation.

About this "once proud" thing...

NIU basketball wiki
Looking at NIU basketball history there isn't a whole lot to be proud of. Some ok, but only 3 20 win seasons. So only a couple truly good teams. The typical conference finish has been middling at best. McDougal was ultimately a sub .500 coach.

NIU's basketball history is as negligible and spotty as pre-Novak football.

Respectable in the sence we are not 3 -25ish. In the tournament in the 90s and some McDougal teams occasionally not asking for the world. Norther Iowa, NDState,ISU,SIU ALL have better programs. THAT is not acceptable. Lets establish ourselves better than at least -2- of those programs. That is not a high standard. Its FUN when you have a really good team. Bring FUN to back to the campus.

Sure looks like Akron didn't care too much! Nobody is afraid of NIU basketball.

And with a few breaks we could have had 5 more losses. You can't have it one way without having it the other way.

I will say NIU definitely finished with a record as low as It could be. I know people hate to hear about injuries but when 2 of your best players are injured or operating at minimal capacity. Any team will struggle

RE: UIC Basketball
red/black, NIU beat Akron earlier in the year.......I gotta believe their scouting report emphasized how well the Huskies were playing......No one, including Akron coaches could have predicted the Zips would shoot 7-9 from three in the first 10 minutes of the game. If you watched (although your snide remarks suggest otherwise) you would have seen most of those were contested and at least three were buzzer beating flings. The Roos shot over 60% the first half and nearly as well from three point land. It is tough to overcome that but in basketball teams sometimes are torrid and there ain't much stopping such momentum. Kinda like when NIU blew out CMU at home. Of course the turnovers didn't help in the first half but, perhaps, falling so far behind so early made guys try too hard to make plays instead of settling into the offense. It ain't like coach didn't use timeouts (2 in first nine minutes) to try to stem the tide, but, it was obviously Akron's night and did not reflect the effort and energy the Huskies had demonstrated in beating the three top teams in the west in consecutive games. I feel sad for you whiners that love to pile on when the team is down and seem to not enjoy the victories as much as you relish in the defeats.
