RE: 2015 Conference Men's Basketball awards
Keyshawn Woods got hosed IMO.

Averaged 8.6ppg and is 24th in the country in 3 point FG % at almost 47%

Giddy Potts over Woods? I'm sorry, but that's just asinine. Woods averaged more points per game, shot wayyyyyy better from 3, had more assists per game, and they were nearly even at RPG. They were tied for TO's per game. Potts shot better from the line, but that's the one area where he performed a fair amount better. This isn't to say Potts isn't a great freshman, because his numbers definitely look solid, but this is a case of not wanting to show too much favor to one team since Dorn was already included.

RE: 2015 Conference Men's Basketball awards
All-Conference USA first-team selection Trey Freeman of ODU, UTEP senior Julian Washburn and freshmen Torin Dorn of Charlotte and Chris Cokley of UAB received the 2014-15 Conference USA specialty awards. Freeman was named the C-USA Newcomer of the Year, while Washburn was the Defensive Player of the Year after making his third straight appearance on the All-Defensive Team. Dorn was named the C-USA Freshman of the Year, while Cokley came off the bench for all 31 of the Blazers games this season to be named the Sixth Player of the Year. All awards were voted on by the conference's head coaches and select media.

Freeman adds C-USA Newcomer of the Year to his awards as he has already been named to the All-Conference USA First Team and C-USA All-Academic Team. A native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Freeman returned to his home state as a transfer from Campbell University. He ranks second in the league for scoring (17.2 ppg), with 11 games with 20 or more points, including four of the last five games, and eighth in assists (3.4 apg). He also received recognition as a two-time C-USA Player of the Week selection and has been a key to the Monarchs' 24-6 record this season, including a perfect 17-0 mark at home.

Washburn was named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Year after earning a spot on the All-Defensive Team for the third consecutive season. He ranks sixth on the UTEP career scoring chart and among the top 15 in career field goals, steals, assists, minutes played and games played. The Duncanville, Texas, native is routinely assigned to the opponent's top offensive player holding many of the league's top scorers to well under their season averages.

Washburn is one of four repeat selections as to the all-defensive as he is joined by seniors Pierriá Henry of Charlotte and the Louisiana Tech duo of Kenneth "Speedy" Smith and Michale Kyser. The lone newcomer to the All-Defensive Team is FIU junior forward Adrian Diaz, who just registered the first triple-double in C-USA this season (and 16th overall in league history) by tying the conference record with 13 blocks to go with 14 points and 12 rebounds in a victory over UAB to close out the regular season.

Dorn was selected as the C-USA Freshman of the Year as the 49ers leading scorer. He was also the top freshman scorer in Conference USA, averaging 11.8 points per game through the regular season and was a three-time C-USA Freshman of the Week selection. Dorn registered his first career double-double Jan. 8 with 26 points and 10 rebounds against WKU. He is joined on the All-Freshman by the UAB duo of Nick Norton and William Lee, Middle Tennessee guard Giddy Potts and North Texas forward Jeremy Combs.

Cokley came off the bench for UAB in all 31 contests and was a tremendous spark to the Blazers' 13-5 conference record, including a perfect 9-0 mark on their home floor. He averaged 17.4 minutes off the bench and contributed 8.1 points per game as the Blazers second-leading scorer. The freshman from Savannah, Georgia, is also the team's most efficient shooter (.547) and second-best rebounder (4.7 rpg). Cokley recorded back-to-back double-doubles in conference play against WKU and Marshall.

The 2015 Conference USA Men's Basketball Championship tips off tomorrow, March 11, at the Legacy Arena at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex in Birmingham, Alabama. Saturday's title game begins at 3:30 p.m. EDT/2:30 a.m. CDT and will be nationally televised on FOX Sports 1. Tickets are available through TicketMaster or by visiting the Legacy Arena box office.

Three UAB freshmen earned conference awards... now we're definitely getting kicked out of C-USA.

POY and COY are typically announced the day of the beginning of the tournament.

White COY
Speedy COY

Seems odd that the team picked 1st pre-season who ended up winning it gets COY. They experienced no injuries and had 3 senior starters.

UAB's coach probably would've won it, but lost last two games

I seriously doubt that had anything to do with it. White was the popular pick and that's it.

2015 Conference Men's Basketball awards
Something to be said about a team picked first actually finishing first as crazy as this years been. The flip side to the three seniors is the 9 newcomers. There are arguments for several coaches in the league, and I hope we can keep most of them here for a few years.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Rice's head coach get the award very soon

I'm a bit disappointed but congrats to both. La Tech is a great program and a huge asset to our league.

Yes. Woods belonged on the All Freshman team ahead of Potts.
