The primary 7-man rotation are all juniors. I believe 8 of the 13 on scholly are juniors, not a single senior. Coach Haith has his work cut-out for him as he recruits for 2016.

TX

I think it's 8 of 12. We have one open.

Dew, Littlejohn, Reps and Edogi are the only non-juniors on the full roster.

UCF will be a contender next year. 4 starters return (2 frosh, 2 soph). AJ Davis is eligible (transfer from Tenn), Williams is back from injury, McSpadden (lock down defender 6'4" PG), 6'9" AA Chad Brown and we all know about 7'6" Tacko Fall enter the program. Expect to be run out of the gym with their 12 man rotation.

UCF is a 2 more years away from contending.

The clear favorite to win it all.

We lose Cummings and Morgan. Brown is a better shooter, rebounder, and defender than Cummings, but he can't slash and create offense like Will can. Morgan is just a scorer and didn't really try to play D until the last 2-3 games.

We have our best recruiting class under Dunphy. 6'9 PF/C Ernest Aflakpui, 6'6 SG/SF Trey Lowe, and 6'4 SG Levan Alston. All were 4* on ESPN. Alston was a 4* on Rivals.

Lowe is the leading scorer in the state of NJ in terms of points. He is just under tied for 4th in average at 24.9 PPG. He also averages 9.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 3 steals per game. He and Alston are both very, very skinny, but they're a hire caliber athlete than we have recruited.

We're also firmly in the picture for a 4*/5* 7'1 C should he decide to play in college.

So here goes: Why did the AAC have a down year this year in basketball? I understand it would be hard for UCONN to do what they did last year, but about Memphis? Is this even considered a down year or is this what we should expect going forward? Finally, how many teams do we think will make the Tourney this year?

Thanks in advance to the answer of any or all of the questions.

"why did the AAC have a down year?"

Because both UConn and Memphis performed below expectations.

On the flip side, kudos to Temple and Tulsa for performing well, and picking up our slack...

"but about Memphis? Is this even considered a down year or is this what we should expect going forward?"

history says we'll follow up an NIT trip, with an NCAA trip next season.

02 - NIT Champ
03 - NCAA 1st Round
04 - NCAA 2nd Round
05 - NIT
06 - Elite Eight
07 - Elite Eight
08 - Final Four
09 - Sweet 16
10- NIT
11 - NCAA 2nd Round
12 - NCAA 2nd Round
13 - NCAA 3rd Round
14 - NCAA 3rd Round
15 - NIT?

RE: Basketball question from a non basketball fan: Why did we have a down year?
Assuming Nic Moore, Kennedy and Frazier all come back I think SMU is still the favorite. We lose 2 big men (1 starter) and replace them with 2 guys who might be better in Olegeye (Parade National Player of The Year) and Jordan Tolbert (an experienced double figures transfer from Tech). Our "6th Man" Markus Kennedy is really the best Big Man on the team and probably in the AAC. So the starters really don't lose a thing. Plus the Sophomore (next year Junior) Class with Frazier, Ben Moore and Sterling Brown have each started from 15-40 games, have high upsides and could eventually receive all conference consideration plus 2 National Top 100 Guards. We are not going to be as tall but we will have 7 guys we can already count on and 2 more super frosh. There's hardly any one on our expected lineup that can't develop into an All-AAC (First, Second or Third Team) caliber player before he's done. Larry will continue to have a very very deep bench. This year our Achilles Heal was Nic Moore fouling out-it never happened. We would have similar issue if Markus Kennedy got in foul trouble next year unless we can find one in the Spring signing period. Experienced, already successful roster. Larry Brown was successful developing some mediocre holdover recruits from Doherty days, but all the kids coming up are a step up in talent.

So from here on out, what would be considered a good year for the AAC in getting teams in the tourny? Average Four teams? Three? Five?

Lowe is skinny but he likes contact. He is an athlete, the likes of which Temple hasn't seen probably since Eddie Jones. That being said, you're right, both need to add about 15lbs. Aflakpui is a specimen but will his knee be ready for 2015?

When in the hell is the Greek kid making his decision? Would love to see Temple pick up another pg also. Anyone on the horizon?

I think 4 should be the realistic goal every season. Under is a down year, over is a great year. Even not counting Louisville, we almost had 4 last season with SMU just missing the cut.

Hopefully Lowe and Alston get stronger quickly. We need both to be at least a legit 180 lbs. as freshmen. Big Ern is supposed to be good to go in May. He's a solidly built 6'9 240. We haven't had any freshmen near that under Dunphy and Williams, Craig and Mark don't count. Obi is 220. Lavoy and Mike Eric were 225.

Not sure on George. I imagine we'll hear something in the next 2 months. I know of one JUCO PG Temple is interested in, and he's very, very good. Not sure how serious they are though. I imagine they'll test the 5th year free agency market. Considering Dunphy passed on Carter, I think a freshman PG is out of the question.
