Quote:We spent a lot of time thinking about it. We looked at other models with more teams
Somehow I am not reassured by the fact that they spent a lot of time thinking. That hasn't gotten us anywhere good up to this point.
Quote:First and foremost, I think we don't want to go further, in terms of the number of games the student-athletes are playing
North Dakota state won the FCS national championship by winning a 24 team playoff. They played 12 regular season games and finished the year at 15-1 for a total of 16 games.
Ohio State won the CFP by winning a 4 team playoff. They played 12 regular season games and finished the year at 14-1 for a total of 15 games.
What in the actual f**k are you talking about?
Quote:We want to preserve the importance of bowls that are not in the playoff
And what exactly is that importance? I know there is history and people who feel nostalgia for the way things used to be but really what is the importance. It has been a couple months and I can't really tell you who played in what bowl. I know OSU won the NC, ECU played in the Birmingham bowl, Ole Miss got their teeth kicked in by TCU, and Georgia tech blew out Miss State. I can't even remember exactly what bowls those were though. Not to mention out of the 30 some bowls there were, there are maybe 6 or 7 that people really have any affinity for. Out of those bowls, two conference champs (Baylor, Boise) participated. The bowls that would have lost a team if we had a playoff made of all conference champs would be:
Cotton Bowl: Baylor
Fiesta Bowl: Boise State
Boca Raton: Marshall, NIU
Liberty: Memphis, or Millitary: Cincinnati, or Bitcoin: UCF
R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl: ULL
God forbid the Bitcoin or Boca Raton bowl lose their significance! Or the Cotton bowl had to replace #5 Baylor with #13 Georgia or the Fiesta Bowl had to replace #20 Boise State with #19 Auburn.
Quote:we want to keep college football a one-semester sport and not go further into January
The FCS championship game (again in a 24 team playoff) was played on Jan 10. The CFP championship game was played on Jan 12. Again, what in the actual f*** are you talking about?
Quote:Having somebody left out is always going to cause a lot of heartburn
I can just feel the sympathy in this quote. Lets leave as many teams out as possible to maximize that heartburn. The burn lets you know it's working!
Quote:It also causes a lot of the anticipation and a lot of the enjoyable tension people feel as they watch their team through the season.
I know I felt a lot of anticipation and enjoyable tension watching the AAC this year. Which team will represent the conference in the playoffs? Will it be Memphis? UCF? Cincinnati? ECU?....oh wait our conference champion MAYBE gets to play in a "New Years Day Bowl" but equally likely in the Bitcoin or Military bowl? Nevermind I must have confused that heartburn with enjoyable tension.
Quote:Four is a compromise. It is the right place.
How kind of you all to determine yourselves the governing body of the sport and then compromise with yourselves to allow two more of your teams in. Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back.
I'm feeling good about my intelligence today as some of the "greatest minds" in college football though about this for a long time, and I was able to calm their fears in a matter of minutes with minimal research.
